Met office update

UK Outlook for Saturday 11 Jun 2016 to Monday 20 Jun 2016:

Generally unsettled, and somewhat cooler weather is expected to start this period, with organised bands of rain drifting across the UK. There will also be some sunshine and drier weather for most areas in between the rain bands, although afternoon showers will also be possible. Winds will remain quite variable but will become breezier than of late with a low likelihood of gales at the country's fringes. It will then remain rather unsettled through the middle part of June, though there will still be drier, sunnier periods for most, between bands of cloud and rain. The southeast may begin to become more settled towards the end of the period. Temperatures fresher than of late; so perhaps still warm in sunny spells, but rather cool in the most unsettled periods.

UK Outlook for Tuesday 21 Jun 2016 to Tuesday 5 Jul 2016:

Into late June and early July, the most unsettled weather should increasingly become confined to northwestern areas. Generally drier, warmer and sunnier conditions should continue to develop further south and east, although still with a risk of some rain or showers at times. Temperatures generally near normal at first, but perhaps cool in most unsettled spells. Warmer conditions may then develop later in the period, perhaps becoming very warm at times in the south.

The "very warm" part has disappeared from the end but still not too bad:

UK Outlook for Sunday 12 Jun 2016 to Tuesday 21 Jun 2016:
Generally unsettled and somewhat cooler with bands of rain pushing eastwards to start the period. These will be interspersed with some brighter, but showery conditions which may be heavy with thunder too. It will become breezier than recently too, with stronger winds likely across southwestern parts later. Towards the middle of the first week, largely drier and sunnier conditions should become established across northwestern parts and gradually extend further south and east and it will become warmer at times too. Into the weekend and the start of the following week a north-south split is expected with the most unsettled and cooler weather in the north and drier, more settled spells in the south and southeast, though still a risk of showers at times with temperatures trending around normal.

UK Outlook for Wednesday 22 Jun 2016 to Wednesday 6 Jul 2016:
Through late June and into early July, the most unsettled weather is likely to remain confined to north and northwestern areas. Drier, warmer and sunnier conditions are should continue across southern and southeastern parts, again still with a risk of the odd shower at times though probably a trend to more in the way of drier conditions later. Temperatures generally near normal to start and perhaps cool at times in more unsettled weather, though most likely to see a tendency towards warmer conditions later.

Met office update

UK Outlook for Monday 13 Jun 2016 to Wednesday 22 Jun 2016:

It is looking unsettled from the start of this period, with spells of rain or showers, some of these turning heavy with a risk of thunder. The showers may also merge into longer periods of rain, with some heavier bursts possible. Winds are likely to be brisk, mainly across southern areas. As the first week progresses, more in the way of bright spells could develop, mingled with showers, however generally drier conditions are expected to become established into the southwest by Friday. Through the weekend and into the second week the northwest is likely to see much of any further rain, with the southeast expected to see drier conditions. Temperatures should be around normal for the time of year, but possibly falling below average in any extended periods of rain.

UK Outlook for Thursday 23 Jun 2016 to Thursday 7 Jul 2016:

Unsettled weather is most likely across north and northwestern areas through late June and early July. Southern and southeastern areas are more likely to see drier, warmer and sunnier conditions. Through the period this trend to more settled conditions is then expected to extend to most parts of the country. Temperatures are likely to be around normal for most, but possibly slightly below in the northwest and in more prolonged spells of rain. There is a signal that temperatures could gradually move to slightly above normal as the period progresses.

I see that from this coming Sunday according to the Met Office info above breezier and unsettled conditions will return. The current ECM and GFS charts this morning show a probability of a more sustained settled spell from the same period? Which is right?

I must say though, with that BBC forecast, I'm a little dubious about what the models show now - and perhaps we need a few more runs of agreement before we can start feeling more confident.

BBC monthly outlook

Monday 13 June—Sunday 19 June
Keep your umbrella handy

Low pressure will dominate our weather for much of this week with a brief drier, sunny interlude coming our way on Saturday.
Before then, Monday will see a band of rain continuing to move north-eastwards across the country, becoming stationary over southern Scotland and northern England. Heavy showers will follow to much of England, Wales and Northern Ireland with a risk of thunder and it will be warm and humid once again. Northern Scotland will continue dry and much cooler with sunshine. On Tuesday and Wednesday, northeast Scotland will be rather grey and misty with patchy rain. Brighter elsewhere with sunshine, especially during the morning but heavy showers breaking out each afternoon, bringing the risk of thunder again. During Thursday and Friday, the low pressure will move away to the east. This will allow the cool air over northern Scotland to make its way southwards on a freshening northerly wind. There will be more heavy afternoon showers in the south on Thursday but drier, brighter weather extending to all parts during Friday. Saturday looks to be the driest, brightest day of the week with plenty of sunshine. Also feeling warm in the sunshine with light winds. Do make the most of it as we will see cloudy skies and outbreaks of rain spreading from the west during Sunday.

Monday 20 June—Sunday 26 June
Typical British summer weather

There will be a real mix of weather during next week with some warm and sunny weather but also outbreaks of rain and fresher winds.
At the start of the week, the trough of low pressure bringing rain during Sunday will continue to affect many places on Monday and Tuesday. It will also become warm and humid in the south. Fresher Atlantic air will follow on Wednesday and Thursday with rather cloudy skies and some outbreaks of rain, most persistent and heaviest in the northwest. A ridge of high pressure will again follow from the west late in the week and over the weekend bringing drier, warmer weather once again. The highest temperatures and best of the sunshine will be across England and Wales. If this is the case, it will be good news for the festival goers heading to Glastonbury at the end of the week, an event traditionally linked to heavy rain and lots of mud.

Monday 27 June—Sunday 10 July
Good weather for tennis?

As we head into the Wimbledon fortnight, the weather across the British Isles will start off in a changeable phase. There will be a westerly jet stream high up in the atmosphere which is expected to bring weather systems across the Atlantic in our direction. This still brings quite a mix of weather for the latter part of June. There will be bands of rain crossing the country with drier and brighter weather following behind. It looks as though the area of high pressure over the Azores will build northeastwards towards the UK as we move into July. This will bring more in the way of drier, brighter and warmer weather, especially to more south and eastern areas. There will continue to be troughs of low pressure bringing rain into more northern parts and we could still see some of that rain coming southeastwards at times.

Next week

Cautious optimism for some settled weather
