It's the first day of the year with really high dewpoints - if you're in the SE, you've probably noticed how humid it is today. It's largely due to the rain earlier; as it evaporates it's given an extra boost to dewpoints.

17 or 18 is typical on the most humid days down here, 19 is unusual and 20 or higher (assuming it's accurate and not a dried wick) is rare. Today's table so far, from WeatherOnline:

Mildenhall Royal Air Force (10 m)21    °C
Lakenheath (10 m)20    °C
London Heathrow Airport (25 m)19.7 °C
Gravesend Broadness (10 m)19.2 °C
London City Airport (5 m)19    °C
Gatwick Airport (62 m)19    °C
Luton Airport (160 m)19    °C
Cranfield Airport (111 m)19    °C
London Stansted Airport (106 m)19    °C
Biggin Hill (183 m)19    °C

I can vouch for the high dew points in Suffolk today. Haven't experienced anything like this for a while.  What humidity percentage would a dewpoint of 20 to 21 equate to??

With moist air, a simplistic calculation would be:
RH = 100 - 5(t - td)

where t is the temperature and td is the dewpoint.

Thus an air temperature of 21c and DP of 19c would give a RH of approx 90%

EDIT: In the case of Mildenhall Royal Air Force in Darren's table that's a RH of 95% with 22c and DP of 21c

Thanks Arcus

Definately ties in with what I'm experiencing here. Only saviour is the slight breeze we have!!

Very impressive figures there. Certainly has been stuffy today. Didn't help having to be crammed into a train like sardines on the way home this evening.

Maximum dew point I recorded was 19.7C at 13:25

As it happens that figure equals the highest dew point I recorded in 2015 on 1st July.

After the silly humidity in the past couple of days where it reminded me of my tomato greenhouse working days, it was nice not to be sweating like a cornered nun stuck on a car bonnet today.

Here's a blast from the past... 8 years ago the sorts of dewpoints we've seen multiple times this year, and last year, were worthy of comment!
I've resurrected this thread as Sunday into Monday could well see the return of 20C+ dewpoints, quite widely, and indeed the likes of ICON are showing 21C dewpoints. Sample chart below:

I see 19C for the Midlands area too and uppers of 16-18C so will be hot and humid day at 32-33C here Monday and London 34-35C with 20C dewpoint.
I prefer dry heat for several days and low dewpoint but seem now we cannot get this anymore but you get hit with high dp during horrible quickie heat.
I notice why it so quiet in MO thread thought we see lot of posting about high temps and dewpoints which is worth a mentioned?

Here in Kephalonia the dew point is currently 26⁰C and it does feel rather warm out.

Dewpoints are rising already in the SW, with several stations reporting 19C (and one unnamed one reporting 19.4). It's going to be a long few days!

It is incredible how nonchalant people are these days about temperatures in the Thirties and DP's in the high teens/low 20's.
I hate to say it but being 54 now I remarked to my wife just yesterday as we walked at lunchtime that the temperature was around 22c with low DP's and said when younger this would have been regarded as a very pleasant summers day. Now it is almost described as cool and breezy.

80f was headline news in the 70's (apart from 76 which really was a way out there event), now this is almost (BBC described 25c yesterday as around average) normal, and you only get headlines (apart from the guff you get on SM) when approaching 90's.

The rate we are going at 90's will become the new 80's and notable events will be 100's.

I know there were a flurry of articles 25-30 years ago saying how global warming would mean we would have a Med climate by 2050, I think it was, so maybe that's where it came from?

All I know is as a kid in the 80s, it was quite special when "80s" appeared in the Today newspaper, or the temperature symbols turned a deep orange on the Beeb forecasts (as they did at 25C). Mind you, that still wasn't as special as the elusive blue sunshine symbol, which you'd see on the charts if there was a sunny ice day!

EDIT: And back to today, the highest dewpoints so far are 19C, in Lydd. There shouldn't be much excitement today, as a brief wedge of fresher air is moving in, but by tomorrow afternoon they'll be on the rise again!
