Looks to me like we've got inbound along a line centered from Bournemouth north-eastward.

Lots of tightly clustered cells, not particularly intense so could actually the the infamous 'thundery rain' although the lightning rate is quite high for that (elevated storms?).

Indeed seems high level stuff - just got back from Lyme Regis and it is cloudy with light rain in bursts.

Rather fizzling out at the moment compares to whats showing on radar

As some have said, this is high-based stuff typical of plume scenarios, so what's on the radar may not be borne out in terms of what's getting to the ground. Looks like a messy situation this evening and overnight, with areas invof the cold front seeing patchy rain with the possibility of some embedded cells, further SE in a line IOW to Wash possibly seeing more organised discrete convection with high-based storms some of which could be good lightning generators.

Those high based plume storms are best at night anyway so you don't want the activity to peak too soon. It's all about the light show rather than the thunder. Best thunder is from in-situ cells with low bases.

We had a fantastic one on holiday this year. It only rained for about 15 mins (but it was intense rain with a good gust front) but the lightning was going at least a strike every couple of seconds for over an hour. Virtually no audible thunder.

Spectacular fork lightning at the moment from almost rainless skies...

Cluster of strikes N of W. Wittering in last few minutes. This is a good site- thormies present no doubt know about it but it gives accurate lightning locations and then by watching the emanating sound circle (a prediction based on speed of sound only and not accounting for topography or atmospheric conditions) you can predict when you'll hear the rumble. We love running out when the circle hits us on the map, and it's been accurate every time.

As I mentioned earlier, cells forming along that line now are producing sferics. I would expect to see more of these firing up extending NNE toward the Wash along the plume boundary area.

Ear just started ringing and suddenly felt light headed.. At same time two other members of the home felt similar.

Not sure what the sudden change in pressure means as no thunder at moment - storm cleared and just spats of rain.

Dont know how high the cloud base was but there was very little 'muck' below the actual storm bases.

Interesting thing is that the sky in the two photos doesn't appear to be overly dark to me, unless it was actually darker than the photos suggest.
