Frequent heavy showers, odd rumbles of thunder.

The same thing always happens when these shower trains come up from the SW. They look very promising as they trundle across Bucks/Beds, usually giving Milton Keynes a good pasting, but fizzle just as they hit the Cambridgeshire flatlands, then re-build as they cross into Suffolk/Norfolk. So far I've heard a couple of distant rumbles, and one a bit closer from a cell which gave about about 10 seconds worth of heavy rain. I really don't know why I bother watching the radar on days like this.

Looks like the last of it here thankfully. A thoroughly disgusting day. 👎

The sun is now out and the roads and paths are steaming. A kind of low level mist is covering areas

Even though we have had heavy showery rain, the bad stuff is to the south towards Leicester, westwards and towards Brum.

At last, overhead thunderstorm

LeedsLad123
29 July 2013 16:25:06

Another very disappointing day overall with plenty of cells within the vicinity, but never anything overhead. Another cell developed to the SE of here within the past hour, produced some good CG bolts and then moved east, and so the wait continues - over a week of great conditions, yet nothing at all to show for it. Nearly 2 years since te last overhead storm, will probably be 3 by this time next year. Bemused, befuddled, confused, slightly irate - but not shocked, not anymore.

Oh well, it will soon be winter, and I'll get lots of snow while everyone else gets nothing.

Well I have never witnessed a day when it's been thundering for 6 hrs non stop. There has been one after the other and PC well and truly off. We have had pea size hail and flash flooding abound here today with debris all over the roads everywhere. The last storm was churning out inter cloud lightning once every 10-20 seconds with thunder non stop. The next one is already giving us another deluge with booming thunder and....the sun out. Crazy.

A dry and sunny day with just a brief shower mid morning. Is this the only location in the whole of the UK to have had no thunder at all - not even a distant rumble or nighttime flicker of lightning - during the whole of the last week?

Superb storm N of Alton. Drove through it en route to Basingstoke with some proper forked lightning and torrential rain. The road flooding S of Basingstoke is the worst I've seen so god knows what the rainfall rate was! Wouldn't mind betting there was hail judging by the tree debris

Long time since I've posted on here. Terrific cloud formations in the Slough area, have some not bad photos on the phone, though no action to report in the town itself. That might change in a bit though looking towards the south. Some friends up in Huntly are reporting flash floods from a storm earlier in the afternoon. Its certainly been better than Saturday I'd say.

Yet another storm has developed nearby. Some massive rumbles towards Kinder Scout. As mentioned the cloudscapes are incredible with huge towering CB's.

Back home I got a couple of photos as it retreated. Still flashing and banging now.

Check out this bad boy:

Just before I took these, with perfect timing just as I stuck my head round the corner a fork of lightning streaked right across diagonally from top right to lower left. Shame I don't have a lightning trigger!
