Certainly the thundery stuff is a bit more extensive than I thought it might be. Met have quickly served up a warning now as well to go with the earlier one for NI:

As is often the case in these synoptics, heavy showers deliver briefly here in late morning before concentrating much further inland. Dry and breezy with sunny spells although I can occasionally see a cunim to the N

Typically of the Met office of late they issue a warning of storms 30 minutes after they have passed ........

Looks like we may have our third thunderstorm of the day in Weston-super-mare, just approaching from the South West, looking very dark outside now.

Hailstoning (just pea sized) and bloody loud thunder, one of the most violent convective spells for a long time the past week.

Its a cloudscape paradise out there today with numerous Cumulonimbus clouds all over the sky with contrasting white volcanic type towers from a deep and black baseline. The last storm has taken us up to 20mm since 10am. In a brighter interlude at the moment but further trouble is looming out to the WSW.

An active storm has just trundled by to the East - constant thunder for a time. Under the anvil but not a drop of rain here! A different story, I imagine, 2 - 3 miles further east!

Shocking - another cell has developed near Castleford from absolutely nowhere over the past 30 mins, constant thunder and frequent lightning, but passing to the south of here. Grr.

The same thing always happens when these shower trains come up from the SW. They look very promising as they trundle across Bucks/Beds, usually giving Milton Keynes a good pasting, but fizzle just as they hit the Cambridgeshire flatlands, then re-build as they cross into Suffolk/Norfolk. So far I've heard a couple of distant rumbles, and one a bit closer from a cell which gave about about 10 seconds worth of heavy rain. I really don't know why I bother watching the radar on days like this.
