Blowing a gale again. Gusts up to 52 mph at Langdon Bay, lashing rain. Getting used to this now...

It's still quite gusty/blustery here in nature but the rain has eased off so it's not looking "quite so rough".
As many of you are aware, there is another round of wind to look forward to on Friday but since that looks like coming in from the SW, perhaps my local natural windbreak may be more effective in shielding me from the full effects of it this time round - or is that me being hopeful?
Having said that, it looks like Ireland, the South West, Western side of England and Scotland that are set to cop it the most - and of course there is the ongoing flooding issues caused by persistent and heavy showers - and on top of all that are spring tidal surges - another additional worry for those living on prone low-lying coastal areas.

I'm going to find it very amusing if there are talks of water shortages come the summer.

Not *quite* as windy as the last two goes here but the lights have flickered twice so far this evening.. quite unsettling. We had another gas cut earlier as well, although sod's law just as the engineer turned up it came back on again. The wind info from the yacht club a couple of miles away is as follows: Sampled at 18:01 Direction/beaufort: SSW F6 Wind spd: 32 mph / 28 kts Wind gust: 37 mph / 32 kts Avg (5m): 35 mph / 30 kts Avg (1h): 32 mph / 28 kts Max. gust: 52 mph at 12:48 Gusts during the last half hour have been up to the high 40s, but it's not (yet) as severe as the mid 60s of last time, nor the low 70s of the Christmas Eve storm.

Yesterday's prolonged and rather intense rain has caused local streams to once again break their banks!

I understand that the London area is in for some serious weather on sunday and potential flooding. Exceptional weather and heavy rain tomorrow Friday but Sunday looks far worse...

Severe flood warnings for the SW.  Looks as though gales and high tides might be the main problem.

yes im heading down to westward ho! tomo morning, leaving around 4am to get there for high tide, i was only there last week and was amazed to see how many stones from the ridge are littered around the beach and how much sand has been scoured out of the bay-you can see down to the clay base in some parts, and the dune erosion at the northam burrows end is clearly evident, tomo will be a real test of the pebble ridge with the combination of 15-20ft swell, force 7 winds and a 9.9m tide + 0.6m surge, not sure when it was last breached.

The man on TV said that people should keep clear of the coasts during the storm as you could be swept away !

Well the water levels in my part of Kent are definitely still 'high'. Had to take a long cut home on the bike as the road off of Golden Green going over the Medway was under water.

Goes to show the delayed response from yesterdays rain- it was passable this morning with one flooded section of about 20 metres and a total depth of a foot or so. Same part on the way home was up to my knees and getting deeper (plus stretching off around the corner to the river and all flooded) so I had to turn round

Can't imagine it'll be useable again for a while with all the rain expected.

Other than that there was a fair bit of partially flooded roads with the odd section completely under water, albeit only to a few inches. The river through East Peckham was interestingly high Generally all the streams I saw are very high at the moment and there's extensive run-off from the fields.

Here we go again

Winds up here !

Gone from virtually calm to pretty gusty quiet quickly  !

At least I got a decent walk in today to save me from severe cabin fever.    Have some part time  work  to do, so may as well forgo the last day of the  holiday tomorrow and lock myself in the workshop - assuming the power stays on !

In fact, people wanting to watch the Severn Bore tomorrow morning have been advised not to turn up to watch such is the uncertainty in the area of sudden flooding and people being caught out in a situation changing hourly. Also people have been told to avoid sea fronts.
Bristol has erected an emergency flood barrier for the first time.

I know it's not on topic but worries me terribly when people say they are going down to the sea to watch. BBC news at ten is making for depressing viewing. Stay safe over the next few days everyone.
