Fred's entire contribution to the game - providing an assist - along with the ref - for Neymar.

The World Cup has started. Or so I'm told. I can't recall so little excitment in the lead up to a football World Cup. No idea whether it's the FIFA issues, hosting it in a rubbish timezone for European viewers, or expecations management for England.

If Brazil continue to play like this they will not win this tournament, even factoring in a favourable ref.

LOL

Truly farcical penalty, though.

Rather ominous refereeing. Please let's not have a repeat of the South Korea world cup, which had the dodgiest referring I've ever seen.

Much as I've always been a fan of Brasil, I can't say they deserved the win tonight. Poor refereeing and Brasil not that potent in the final 3rd, IMO.

This sums it up.

22m

5 - Brazil conceded only five fouls vs Croatia, their joint-lowest total in any World Cup match from 1966 to present. Gentle.

This Brazil side has very good players but is nowhere near the classy sides of its past. They were lucky today and that penna decsion was just shite.

Still think Brazil will win it unfortunately.

I despise Harry Redknapp, but I can now see why he doesn't rate Pletikosa and Caesar. Are there going to be any goalkeepers in this tournament worse than these two? I wouldn't bet the house and the dog on it.

Memo to the Brazilian authorities. Please arrest these morons when they arrive in your country.

How long have these cretins been attending England games... a decade?

They still can't play their instruments and still only have a repetoire of two songs.

Hopefully the Italian and (other) England fans will drown them out.

On their way: The Official England Band pose with Brazil fans as they check in for their flight to Sao Paulo as they prepare to head off to the World Cup in Brazil at Heathrow Airport

My problem with them is that they don't have a Pirlo or a Modric. That could prove crucial.

BTW, we don't have a DLP either.

Ah...maybe not.

Also the guy with the trumpet on the far right...looking like he is doing something to the lad behind. The drummer looks like a creature from the Hobbit. Freddy Kruger on the other trumpet and a bloke on the big thing who has been blowing for far too long as his mouth has permanetly stuck in the 'blow' position.

Just got done watching the second half of the game since some yank at work who has no idea about the importance of the 'soccer world series' decided to schedule a meeting during the second half of the game.

And, well, Croatia royally shafted by the ref with a penalty that shouldn't have been and a goal disallowed that should have stood.  I agree with the sentiments of most that there's just a hint that the ref had bias in his decisions.  Fred had barely gone down before the whistle was blown.

Brazil led a very charmed life there and better teams will tear them a new one if they play again like that.  Even had the ref made those calls correctly, Brazil's last goal was a toepoke that a better keeper would have had, and he should really have made better of getting his hands to the PK.

In all credit to ESPN, they have Ian Darkie (sp?) and Steve McManaman commentating and they were as incensed with the ref as any other neutral.  In fact the lack of bias toward Brazil and calling like they saw was quite pleasing, even if I had to put up with McManamans shrill scouse twang.
