A thread just about this event was too specific but anyway here is a snow reports thread, probably better to keep the MO uncluttered. I think the mods are okay with this one?

Okay this is what is happening

The showers are very slow moving near the centre of the low where winds are still, given this a small area of circulation around the low could see in excess of 5cm, it would not suprise me, a few spots perhaps on the moors could see 10cm. 1-2cm further out from the LP centre.

Edit: right on cue, large flakes heavy snow! Wow, whiteout!

Some of these showers are literally stationary, some places will get nothing, others alot?

Consett, Stanley and the like now have significant snow which has been falling all day. Gridlock on the A691. At lower levels such as here it has been sleet/wet snow and hasn't stayed on the ground. I can't say I'm too hopeful, Q, about tonight. Just doesn't feel cold enough away from higher ground. Seems to be dying as it approaches Durham too.

Road covered again now. Fine, moderate snow. Quite surprising as nothing on radar. Must be an effect of easterly component interacting with eastern slopes of Pennines.

Last night was the coldest night in Cornwall for at least two years (well for my part) and even a light snow shower down to coast level this morning. Not bad for down here.

Plight but settling snow here to sea level currently with a slack flow off the North Sea. A pleasant surprise and possibly a few more showers to come overnight.

Snowing lightly in Wivelsfield, East Sussex as I was waiting for my train to London Bridge. Heavier snow evident nearer the coast as the front train coming in from Eastbourne had quite a covering. -2 on the car.

Slow moving showers have left a dusting here. Wet underground, slushy with temps on freezing.

Heavier snow now and settling. Temp -1.2C shouldn't last too long though but nice to see nonetheless.

Just had a flurry of light snow/graupel even here at the harbour end - thus seeing the first wintry fall in 22 months.

The Ice Age begins.

Mind you, it lasted all of three minutes and is now just light cold rain under grey laden skies - but, hey, it still counts.

I am very pleased to report lying snow (just 1cm) at Whitfield, north of Dover, 130 m asl at 08.25hrs. It looked very pretty.

Another sleet and snow flurry here at Stanford near Hythe has given a dusting.
