Well into yet another spell of rank, putrid mind-numbing dross. More unwanted rain, that the ground can't cope with on Friday, and yesterdays supposed sunny day was yet another flop. Sun was stuck behind high cloud in the morning which thickened up to give a rubbish grey afternoon full of ugly ragged cloud

Another crap day today as well. It's grey and damp with rain earlier on. Temperature never dropped below 6C - some 5C above average following two hideous mild nights more than 3C above average. Contrast that with the useless so-called cold spell when most nights were barely below average

Sick to death of this. All mild weather now seems to come with revolting SE or S winds so is wet/drizzly instead of dry and all cold spells are either anticyclonic or cold zonality so fail to deliver any snow.

Absolutely nothing of interest for a weather enthusiast in this godforsaken country any more. Just endless crap

This country used to have a reputation for "changeable" weather, but now all we ever see to get is the same old Atlantic dross, mild wet and windy, with barely a flake of snow away from the highest ground.

I've just had a quick look outside and it feels just like December just gone, and no doubt this boring weather is all we can expect for the rest of "winter".

What an awful winter it's been.

I realise the mechanisms don't fit, etc, but blimey... imagine if that fell as snow here

But, the fact that it's going to be sodding rain sums up pretty well just why this country's climate is a pile of steaming poo.

CETs for the winters of the 1960s

1959-60: 4.6

1960-61: 4.9

1961-62: 3.6

1962-63: -0.3

1963-64: 3.5

1964-65: 3.3

1965-66: 4.4

1966-67: 5.1

1967-68: 3.5

1968-69: 3.2

I think 1962-63 has distorted the view of the 1960 winters somewhat at least in the CET area. Last winter's CET, believe it or not, was colder than 3 of them and it was only 4.5, both 2009-10 and 2010-11 were colder than all of them except 1962-63.

Take out 1962-63 and the winters of the 1960s , temperature wise were not that outstanding overall.

Another totally rancid day - a dark, depressing Monday morning. Stuck on 10C all day and night under this southerly crap until the "cold" front came through between 4pm and 5pm dropping the temperature to 8C Putrid, mind-numbing rot. The only double digit temperatures we used to see at night in winter had a negative sign in front of them.

This filth is beyond ridiculous. I don't see any benefit of this winter's nightmare weather at all. Not one single positive. At least the mild winters of the 90s were dry and bright and you still got frost and temperature variation.

The misery is just never ending and I believe February will turn out a complete write-off full of Bartlett dominated crap and as always this will be followed by a cold, wet April. Never anything to look forward to any more in this rotten climate

With all this footage of the record snowfalls in the US I just thought I would balance things out a bit with a record of the snow that's fallen on my town, Withernsea, on the East Riding coast during the last 5 winters...

2011/12 1st snow Feb 3rd total snow 5"
2012/13 1st snow Mar 10th total snow 2"
2013/14 No measurable snowfall
2014/15 1st snow Feb 2nd total snow 1"
2015/16 No measurable snowfall so far...

By 1st snow I mean snowfall that has given a covering on the ground not just on sheds/cars etc...

Jon Snow (given his parentage) is integral to the whole series & the three-headed dragon theme. The problem is that the third dragon has already appeared in the books, but not even been mentioned in the TV series, so the TV producers might be steering away from the 3-headed dragon thing completely, which would leave Jon Snow vulnerable, I guess

Another day that plumbed the depths of despair. Absolutely horrific morning of dark, disgusting wet vomit adding another 8mm to the already ridiculous monthly rain total. So bad I'd say it was worse than any mornings at the start of the month

Nightmare to wake up to and have to go out in. Still over 10C at the moment. This is just a living hell where every single day is nothing short of revolting.

Another day of unmitigated crap. It's beyond credulity how awful this winter is. Just the same unappetising rot served up day in day out. Days just merging into one another because conditions are so unvaried there's nothing to distinguish them.

Barely stopped raining all day and wind got up in time to make my walk home from work as torturous as yesterday mornings walk to work. Beats me how anyone could prefer this horrific, nasty unpleasant garbage to snow or frost.

This has now, beat October 2009 to be the wettest month I have recorded since I got my weather station in 2005 as well as beating the likes of 1867, 1937, 1970 and 2014 to be the wettest January for the area in 160 years of local records
