It's their low dewpoints, innit. Seems that doesn't want to transfer over the Channel under the southerly wind. Like our Weather Idle said, it's too much of a long trek over the sea. And I know it's now a lost cause at this end as the dewpoint had shot up to 0.6 C (actual air temp is 5.6 C so it's the rising humidity that had cause the dewpoint to be above freezing) and is spitting with rain but the wind had fallen lighter.

  The wind is still South, so dragging cold dps off France as you say, and Dover being 7 miles east of you, is colder at 4.4c but still way too warm for proper wintriness.  The situation around 6am though is fascinating as the little lp that forms on the front runs through the Dover Straits.


This means the wind will go SE for about an hour or 2 around 7am and this could produce a sneaky window for snow fall at somewhere like Whitfield, not IMBY (where I expect nothing) , before the wind switches almost immediately to a NWly and the low centre tracks eastwards and precip dies quickly.  Fascinating...

Don't know about snow but it's been bucketing down now for quite a while here on then south coast. There seems to be a localised area between the IOW up into new forest and across towards Portsmouth that's producing fairly heavy rain but not moving inland.

In the middle of the rain band here - air 3.4, dew 3.1C. May as well be on Venus for the likelihood of snow down here!
