Today:

I'm looking forward to the clearance of the front and getting out and about.

If any and only the north staying cold but +6c isn't that cold. - The jet stream taking a turn for the worse. (More northerly track). Looks like a return to heavy rain and flooding for the NW.

Oh well only 2 more weeks of autumn. Then spring will arrive.

This map is, as Gooner would say, JFF, because these maps are generally garbage by massively overplaying the snow possibility, but it at least demonstrates the cold air digging in behind the southwards-heading PPN band. Incidentally, if you look at the same GFS run the 2m temps at that time are, if you draw a rough line from the Humber to South Wales, at +2c or below for the entire area north of this (away from coastal fringes)

Bump. Precipitation here is beginning to turn wintry with big splodges in the recent shower. Sleet rather than wet snow but definitely becoming more wintry. The forecast is for rain showers to turn to snow in the early hours and current signs are encouraging.

We've even had a couple of snow flurries in Edinburgh late this afternoon from some cumulus congestus. Clear again now and going cold. The visibility is excellent, from the top of the Royal Yacht I could see snowy Scottish Peaks in the southern Highlands!
