Tulloch Bridge down to -5.7 this morning

http://www.met.reading.ac.uk/~brugge/amextremes.html

Given that the date record for the 14th appears to be -6.7, I wonder if a station that hasn't reported yet has nicked a cheeky date record, making May OFFISHULLY ๐Ÿ˜‰ COLD?

I must say if all cold snaps could be like this I'd happily tolerate one or two a month through the summer.

Dry, low humidity, some warmth in the sun and not much wind. No frost overnight. Like a warm spell in March.

Tender plants which I'd taken a risk and planted out 2 weeks ago look to be surviving, touch wood. 2 more coldish nights to deal with.

Just back from a brilliant week of weather in Estonia. Picked the right week as it was sunny nearly the whole time with deep blue skies that you rarely see in the UK No nonsense like beautiful starts giving way to dismal grey crap by mid-morning. Yesterday was awful though and a definite change there this week.

Just had a quick look at what we had here and infuriating seems a good word. Looks as though it was glorious warm sunshine during the working week sandwiched between two weekends with vastly inferior conditions. Utterly detestable but now the default pattern. Just when are we going to see some decent weekend weather? Not had one Saturday even reach 14C so far this year

Just 11C yesterday compared to 16-18C during the week and today is dire with a horrid north westerly producing lots of cloud. Only 8C just now.  The only talking point nowadays is the extreme lack of warmth. 8th May was the latest date since 1979 for the first 15C of the year at Dyce and following on from last May's hideously low maximum it looks like we could see two consecutive May's fail to reach 19C for the first time since the 1980s

If this was a cold snap, I hate to think what a warm spell would mean.  45c?

Been a perfect summers day here again today, though the gnats swarming in the sunlight down by the river this evening were a bit of a nuisance ....

Horrible weather since I returned. Not remotely springlike. Disgusting for what should be the sunniest time of year with day in day out of depressing grey crap. Waiting for the rain to start to write-off yet another evening and no improvement likely all week with yet another vile weekend coming up. It's just unreal. How much longer can this unremitting dross go on for?

It's just perpetual autumn with nothing decent for over a year and it's not the traditional autumn weather we used to get but the cancerous rubbish that has prevailed since the turn of the century with incessant gloom, non-descript day temperatures, mild nights and extreme lack of temperature variation

Another pleasant day today. May 2016 has been a very agreeable affair in London so far. But tomorrow looks revolting.

Edinburgh sunshine and rainfall totals are comparable to the East Midlands and it's drier than south London. Not all bad. The heating will be off soon and I can stop wearing my thermal vest to work on the yacht!

Yet another dire day. Grey, humid and depressing with a spell of drizzly rain timed perfectly for lunchtime

Even the cold final week of April was better than this. It's just the absolute pits

The latest mid-month temperature map for May, released by the Met Office, shows 90% of the UK as warmer than average. Only E/SE Scotland and some parts of the English East Coast are below. No more Easterlies please until December!!!

Dyce hasn't reached 20C in May since 2012 showing how awful recent May's have been. 2013 wasn't too bad but 2014 was horrific as was last year and this year is aiming to making it three duds in a row.

Today was another day of rank, disgusting, permacast crap in the land of eternal November. Worst day yet with not even a glimmer of sun and the added horror of thick murk and drizzle Now 5 days in a row with <2 hours sun which is the most dismal depressing spell I can ever recall in May. Even 2014 didn't produce anything as bad so this week may well be the most putrid May spell since the record breaking awful May of 1983.

Looks like a better chance of sun tomorrow before more crap returns for the weekend. Just a sick joke
