I think Richardabdn and Doctormog should come to Ireland for some sun. I don't have sun stats for May readily available but it seems to have been a pretty sunny month over here so far. Boringly so in fact

Yet another cold spring apart from the ten days between 6th-16th May temperatures have been below average here for the season!!

It was warmer last December than the majority of this spring has been.

17 C over the last two days with plenty of sun. This still remains our highest Spring temperature......can't seem to get to the magical 20 this year! However the sunshine and convective skyscapes have been wonderful

Yet another disgusting day. Bang on 5pm it starts raining yet again. Truly surreal how awful our weather has become.

Don't think there has been any rain this month during the night or working hours. All during the evenings and weekends. Just lamentable

Guess which of those three periods coincided with me being out of the country?

On that basis next period of above average sunshine should be the last two weeks of June. when I will be in Italy

April gave me snow !!!!! and thunderstorms !!!!!!!!!!   May has been warm and sunny with below average rainfall - mostly from (non thundery) showers rather than frontal rain.   All in all a very good spring here.   No complaints at all (well, apart from the lack of frosts in May )

A Gloat! A stunning late Spring day in Edinburgh. We will probably record 13 hrs of sunshine today at least. Not much wind either, only 17 C though.

As time goes by I'm feeling less and less optimistic about the upcoming summer. This year has too many similarities to 1998 for my taste - including a strong El Nino turning to weak-mod La Nina by June.

South coasters don't always get it our own way. The sea breeze ruins high max temps on those famous hot summer days. Check out the best we could manage on 3 August 1990, 10 August 2003 and 1st July 2015 for example- the temperature departure from the records set on those days means proper 'south coasters' might just as well have been taking readings on one of the forts in the Solent. We won't want to accept this, of course, and we are quite likely to produce some obscure data to prove we were as hot as Death Valley on those days but actually, we weren't so don't believe us.

I am, of course, only speaking for myself.

I think the temperature will top 17C today which is quite low for late May. I'm meeting my friend in about 20 minutes to play some cards and we will be heading into one of those valleys. Its quite spectacular how different the temps are on the beach to what they are behind the hills.

...and yet another day of crap. Very little sun, grey skies and a nasty cold NE wind making it feel like winter.

That said the sun drenched shingle is radiating heat back out during the cloudy spells so it's still warm at the beach 😜

Really disappointing day for most of UK today with western Scotland the warm spot at 16c and probably the only area that reached average or above.
Reached just 8.3c here with rain for most of Afternoon. Fronts off the north sea bring awful weather here at this time of year.

Very much on for the dullest second half of May on record with another rank day. North Sea grot and only a few blinks of sun. It just gets worse and worse. 33 hours in 10 days now - about what you'd expect in October when the days are barely half as long
