Icon has developed a 2nd snowy front working into devon and cornwall. One to watch.

Although the temperature has dropped to 1.8C the snow has turned to rain, for now not cold enough aloft.

First sleety flakes in the rain here though it is very wet with puddles everywhere so if we do get any snow it may be difficult for it to settle

Just had 10 minutes of very heavy snow with 50p sized flakes but yet again turns back to rain.

I can't see this amounting to much snow wise IMBY.

Even if it turned to snow now (which it shows no signs of doing)    the RADAR   doesn't show much heading in our direction - some light stuff and only an odd bit of orange.  I think ice is going to be the real problem   tomorrow  morning

Some very wet snow here now, nothing too heavy but it’s unlikely to settle at present

As for Thursday's PPN and the northern extent:

Arpege - Wrexham to Stoke to Nottingham to Grantham

GFS - Lancaster to York

Icon - initially Chester to Sheffield to Lincoln, but then pivots to spread snow to Manchester and Yorkshire

I need the GFS solution to be correct!!

Despite a 2m temp of 2-3c, the potential spoiler tonight is the layer of >0c temps between the ground and upto 750m ASL (925hPa) in the atmosphere above SE England. However, the low over France is having the effect of sending colder air from the SE towards us, perhaps arriving just as the heavier rain arrives. This might be the key together  with evaporative cooling, plus there seems quite a convergence developing

Temps now  0.8 Deg here with wet snow.   A slushy few mm settling - barely making the grass white.   Very light now and the  RADAR suggests that's about it bar some snizzle !

I'd love to see a high resolution precip type radar of this front. Based on reports it seems that the entire thing is a complete mixture with tiny local pockets of rain, sleet, and snow. Many reports of rain->snow->rain->snow type stuff going on. Tremendous dissapointment all round

2023/2024 Snow days (approx 850hpa temp):
29/11 (-6), 30/11 (-6), 02/12 (-5), 03/12 (-5), 04/12 (-3), 16/01 (-3), 18/01 (-8), 08/02 (-5)

Total: 8 days with snow/sleet falling.

2022/2023 Snow days (approx 850hpa temp):

18/12 (-1), 06/03 (-6), 08/03 (-8), 09/03 (-6), 10/03 (-8), 11/03 (-5), 14/03 (-6)

Total: 7 days with snow/sleet falling.

2021/2022 Snow days (approx 850hpa temp):

26/11 (-5), 27/11 (-7), 28/11 (-6), 02/12 (-6), 06/01 (-5), 07/01 (-6), 06/02 (-5), 19/02 (-5), 24/02 (-7), 30/03 (-7), 31/03 (-8), 01/04 (-8)
Total: 12 days with snow/sleet falling.

UKMO  and ECM barely get the PPN North of London as far as I can see and even then it doesn't seem much.

The GFS has been so consistent at much further North so it's a head scrather at only T48.

From December 27th 2020, zonality will be banned from mixing with the UK. We appreciate that this may come as a shock to younger people and old Uncle Barty. This ban will last for a minimum of ten days.

This is clearer - shows all of Devon in the white? - which wasn't the case a day or so back!?

Now this must be the fact that the LP taking a more southerly track?

heavy rain in fulham tonight .... I would add that whilst the weather forecast was recently updated  as marginal  for snow in our area I was really expecting  snow potential as local forecasts from LBC and BBC Radio London  including transport for london's own warnings were  indicating snow later on this evening and to be prepared...
