Spanish mainland cases now at 130.

It’s remarkable they only had one confirmed case last week.

Well being worse than Hitler, I am a 1-person commute, so no risk there - when I get there though, I work for a facility that has users and scientists from around the globe. One way or another Vic,   I don't think many people are  going to be isolated from this if it really gets going  except maybe a few Jock and  Taffy farmers - even they will have to  "come into town" occasionally.

I would not be surprised to see foreign travel curtailed quite soon, with restrictions on domestic travel following.

On Africa, I was concerned to read today that many African countries did not even have the ability to test for the virus until very recently - that could explain why no cases have been reported from most sub-Saharan countries, some of which have very close business and investment ties with China. Would expect catch-up in the coming days and weeks to show that some, if not most, African nations have had the virus at some level for some time.

5 new deaths in Washington State, USA, today; 6 deaths in total, but only 96 cases in total. There seems to be a problem with getting hold of tests generally in the USA:

Dr. Matt McCarthy, a staff physician at New York-Presbyterian:

“I’m here to tell you, right now, at one of the busiest hospitals in the country, I don’t have [a rapid diagnostic test] at my finger tips.” “I still have to make my case, plead to test people. This is not good. We know that there are 88 cases in the United States. There are going to be hundreds by middle of week. There’s going to be thousands by next week. And this is a testing issue.”

“In New York State, the person who tested positive is only the 32nd test we’ve done in this state,” he said. “That is a national scandal. [...] They’re testing 10,000 a day in some countries and we can’t get this off the ground,” McCarthy said. “I’m a practitioner on the firing line, and I don’t have the tools to properly care for patients today.”

I would be exceptionally surprised if the virus could be contained, it would be almost unprecedented.

In other developments I note:

1) There is a suggestion the virus has been circulating in Washington for weeks

2) The guy in Herts who tested positive has now been given the all clear and the UK case count is revised downwards by one.

It makes me wonder how accurate the testing process is both in the UK and elsewhere.

WHO chief confirming it would be a unique virus if it could be both significantly contagious and also containable .

The world is in "uncharted territory" on the coronavirus outbreak, the World Health Organization (WHO) has said. Its chief, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, said it had never seen a "respiratory pathogen capable of community transmission which... can also be contained with the right measures".

If you don't have healthcare insurance and present at the "Doc in a box" where the Doc prescribes a test, how much do you think they'll charge you for it?

Having experienced US healthcare first hand, nothing would surprise me. They will check your wallet before they compress a severed artery.
