GEFS consensus growing on a sudden end to the warm/hot spell around 26th/27th. Meanwhile I have woken up to a very rare sight of steady rain!

http://www.wxmaps.org/pix/prec4 not quite a dire as above, but rain around generally especially in the NW. Jetstream soon settles down to running across the UK all the way through to Sat 4th, mostly across the south.

GFS is sort of zonal; around Tue 23rd a deep LP on Atlantic brings some warm air to the SE on a SW flow after which it turns more W-ly and towards end of run (from Thu 2nd) shallow LPs taking a track across Scotland.

GEFS - temps uo to 5 or 6 C above normal Sun 21st - Sat 27th for the S, then around seasonal mean, and very dry. Scotland and N Engand have a smaller bump of warmth Fri 26th, and rain on and off throughout, heavier and more persistent further N.

ECM - emphasises the warmth around Thu 25th and then brings up a thundery low from the S which only begins to merge with a weaker zonal flow from Sun 28th

Bloody fantastic runs this morning.

MetO a corker at T+144 too.

Caution still required as we have some unsettled weather to get through before then, and the positioning of the Atlantic low and how quickly it shunts NW will have a bearing on what happens afterwards. Uncertain but promising.

GEFS pick of the pops this morning is p17.

Hot and settled from early next week, remaining so right up to 384, and becoming more and more high pressure dominated and stable looking as the run continues.

We can dream. It's the summer equivalent of a mad January run with deep Easterlies, channel lows and the downs cut off by 3 metre drifts.

WOW! Insanely hot ECM this morning 13c to 19c  850s in the south days 5 to 10. Must be an outlier but fun to look at. Mid 30s anyone!

No chart available for the selected hour. Many charts start at 3 hours ahead, so if you have 0 hours selected try stepping forward or selecting a later hour.

I meant that the ECM Ensembles this morning show a marked cool down and that the op was a big outlier.

GEFS 00z mean is actually below par in much of the UK during the 10 to 15 day period. Think it's the first time that's happened since I added these charts in a few weeks ago.

Seems to be reasonable consensus now and limited spread for 850s up to the 25th. Then the scatter starts as the second trough from the big Atlantic storm swings round our way. Some runs showing this flattening out bringing cooler but dry weather and the prospect of a second wave. Others showing it angling across us bringing some instability, a longer hot spell but then a post-cold frontal cool down; and finally a few showing it loitering to the SW giving a couple of very hot days before coming right across us and bringing loads of rain.

Next Friday and the weekend is the inflection point. Would be a shame to have 2 mediocre weekends with a weekday heatwave sandwich.

I forgot it can be just as dramatic in here during summer months as it can at the tail end of a mild winter 🤣
Am-dram aside, the trend today continues for very warm (hot in the south) next week until at least Thursday, after which point there really is no point in overanalysing at this stage with some lovely days looking highly likely.

Some absolute monsters of runs this evening so far. Just a quick selection:

UKMO Wed (144):

ICON at same time:

Both ICON and UKMO seem to go for a hot but early peak. Whereas GFA and GEM go for longer, extended build up and later peak.

GFS next Sat (225 hours):

Then GEM, which is out on its own in the monster category, similar time:

The funny thing is it still feels quite knife-edge, because of that big swirling low pressure to the west that might decide to sweep the whole thing away.
