Many who are self-employed will be hoping to discover today what level of support the Chancellor is able to provide. The problem then of course, as with other funding being offered, is how quickly the monies can be rolled out.....as with universal credit, another admin nightmare!

Just called her - it is actually seven wards and the numbers in each vary from 12 to 15.

 

So the figure is from 84 to 105 or thereabouts.

 

The discrepancy with PHE is that patients are not included in the published stats until the virus test has come back from the labs, so recent admissions are not included yet.

To be fair, if I had a dog I'd be out at 5 AM or so! Then again around here there are footpaths going across the marshes and I gaurantee you won't find anyone around on those at that time of day. One of the perks of living in a rural area!

I walk through town in the evening on my walk. By 8pm everything is shut and there are very few people anywhere which is nice 

We've walked our dogs early in the morning for the last 40+years and it's never been a problem. I'll pretend I didn't read your comment

I don’t think you can catch COVID-19 from passing the odd person here and there at a distance of at least a metre plus. 

I know you were more correct than most about this virus but still.... :D

. The police are stopping people from working.  E.g i saw that a range of contractors had been stopped by police and told to go home around here. It included builders, window and door fitters , handymen etc. 

The police response in each area may dictate what lockdown actually means.

I’ve just noticed that the PHE figures published last night were not for a full 24hr period.

I’ve not seen that message before. I wonder if that applies to the deaths and tests or both. Very confusing to get a clear picture of what is happening.

I believe the test figures were 9am to 9am but the deaths were 1pm to 9am. So deaths understated yesterday but overstated the day before

Interesting differences between Turkey and Greece. Not sure if its down to tesing, measures taken, population density,  or whatever

1st confirmed case for Turkey wasn't until 11th March, they are now 2433 confirmed cases and 59 deaths

Greece's 1st confirmed was 26th February, they are now 821 cases and 22 deaths.

I went for a bike ride after work yesterday and saw maybe half a dozen people out. Passed all at a safe distance except one bloke, probably close to 70, who made absolutely no effort to pass at a distance even though I stopped deliberately on a wide section of path and tucked myself into the hedge to allow him to do so! He could have stayed 5 or 6 metres away but strolled last within a few feet.

Some excitement around here because the "Bourne Gutter" is flowing for the first time in living memory. Apparently it indicates catastrophe is imminent.

BTW regarding the discussion yesterday about driving somewhere for exercise, it looks like the official advice is that this is not allowed. Makes sense I suppose as otherwise people congregate at popular spots. Although it makes exercising less appealing if you live in a concrete jungle.

I live on the North Downs down a dead-end lane which peters out into a rutted byway. There are eight houses in the little community. Two of the houses have holiday lets which are now fully booked for the rest of the spring and early summer. The people coming are London escapees and all of them turn up and then start walking up and down the lane in large groups, oblivious to the risk of spreading the disease. Obviously, they are happy to be away from the risk of the city but I don't understand why this flight is allowed to continue. We clearly need checkpoints on the main routes out of the cities.

Anyway, we will probably close the lane with a manned barricade this week.
