Fair point I think

'Still, now that the package is out there, it’s surely not beyond the wit of the banks to offer interest free loans to those affected - particularly as the state is guaranteeing a lump sum in June. Those banks bailed out by the taxpayer (looking at you RBS, Lloyds) owe a moral duty never mind a financial debt to the public to do their bit right now.'

What to make of this, latest from imperial college I think after recent interventions.

I have to say I’m astonished that they also reckon deaths in the US will peak within a fortnight. I hope they are right though!

26/03 - 78 deaths

So in fact the Netherlands have succeeded in flattening the curve further than this study estimated, which of course means the peak will be later.

Eh? That's just weird.  I care about trying to find the best way to help our people. I'm sure everyone cares about that.

But what has that got to do with attributing responsibility for this pandemic to where it belongs?

I think you're thinking is muddled; not something I expected of you.

I think part of it is for the same reasons cities like Madrid and Milan have problems - living density. Cities with high living density have faster spread of the virus. People live in apartment blocks in London of course, but we also have suburbia where everyone has their own front door and bit of garden or yard space - I am certain it makes a difference.

Quite an impressive bit from this article

London will have 7,500 critical care beds by the end of next week – 27 times more than the 275 it had before the epidemic began in January.

I find this unbelievable:-

Downing Street has claimed it failed to take part in an EU scheme to source life-saving ventilators to treat coronavirus because it accidentally missed the deadline.

No 10 initially said it did not take part because the UK was “no longer a member” and was “making our own efforts”.

But after critics accused Boris Johnson of putting “Brexit over breathing”, a No 10 spokesman clarified that it had missed out because of an error and would consider participating in future. It is understood the UK claims not to have received an email from the EU asking it to participate.

The mix-up means the UK has missed out on benefiting from the collective buying power of the EU. The bloc is seeking to use its clout to source large numbers of ventilators and protective equipment.

Oddly enough we had everything but fireworks here. Lots of banging and clapping with virtually everyone on the street either leaning of windows or standing at their front door.

The wonderful people of our NHS saved my life last year. I will never forget it. Tonight was intensely moving and has made me realise what a wonderful country this still is.
