I don’t really get this comment it might be me but surly you would know if you had been severely ill with it icu, hdu etc

Antibody tests would allow health practitioners to find out whether a person has already recovered from the coronavirus and thus built some degree of immunity to it. However, as Professor Neal points out, the antibody tests currently being trialled are “only diagnosing the severe infection”, as opposed to patients with mild cases or those who are asymptomatic.

It is a difficult balance to strike I agree. But I am sometimes feeling, being in the somewhat higher risk category over 70 and abiding by the lockdown (not wandered round a supermarket yet), that I am somehow supposed to be sacrificing myself for the common good. Maybe I should?

Professor Paul Hunter, of the University of East Anglia, added: “There is no doubt this rate of decline is disappointing. Certainly it is far too high to consider lifting lockdown restrictions at present. We need to get numbers down to a few hundred new cases a day before we can do that. Such a decline could take months.”

The over 70s in this hamlet are the only ones ignoring the lockdown. They are quite unbelievable and seem to think it is a bit of a joke.

Still very little traffic in the village or surrounding areas; even the usually very busy A505 has very few cars on it.

Pleased with that Peter not so good here I’m afraid but I must say lots of police about tonight in Chelmsford looks like it’s time to get rough.

Very delicate situation Brian it’s going to be interesting thou, If numbers climb again on a potential second wave we have the added benefit of another lockdown how would the public react (did not work first time might be much harder to implement)

Also second lockdown imho would cause much more economic problems and pain if you want to get WIP and stock rolling so this first decision is  very critical

Brief Canadian report

10am 10k run (well jog to be honest). Pedestrians still being pretty good, no issues really. Cyclists on the other hand... - is it too much to ask that they move a couple of metres into the road when there is no traffic around to avoid passing you a few inches away when you are on a narrow pavement? Ban lycra now!

Better weather today and lockdown is breaking IMO. Visitors cars clearly present at a number of houses in the local streets.

The care home situation continues to be a major concern here. Also apparently a small protest against lockdown referenced here https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/ontario-covid-19-cases-long-term-care-staff-1.5545042  - Ford attempting to strike a tough tone but  a minority have decided they aren't going to comply any more as far as I can tell. He's either going to have to accept this or ramp up enforcement. My guess is that ramping up enforcement will be impossible and so he'll have to throw the population a bone on or before the Victoria Day weekend but we'll see.

If so the Lockdown is a complete waste of time.
There really isn't a great deal of evidence they work any better than good hygiene and keeping your distance so far as possible.
From the start it seems like the justification was scanty and mainly decided to do it because other countries did.
Plus look at Sweden.
We should be going back to work wherever possible and concentrating shielding on the most vulnerable 70+ etc

With the extra capacity of the new nightingale hospitals now up and running, they may be more confident to 'let the shackles loose a little' and those numbers you suggest may be near their 'acceptable' mark. With the information showing the steady run of 4-5k new cases each day, it would be good this number is investigated to see the main cause of what is driving this figure so something may be able to be done about it. Based on my weekly experiences there, its my hunch its the visits to supermarkets causing this steady stream.

We have discussed this before on Two I do have a open mind on it but I just get the feeling we would have been affected by something much worse like Marburg many years ago interesting thou,
