THe virus is in retreat, so the PM will be under huge pressure to relax some restrictions. At least allow non essential businesses to open up with social distancing, re-start all elective surgery and open dentists and opticians. Allow family members to mix again. (this is happening unofficially anyway)

I accept pubs and cinemas will be the last to open, fair enough

As for family members mixing again, anecdotally I have seen no evidence round here of it happening unofficially yet - again, there will clearly be difficulties when it comes to allowing the more vulnerable family members (the elderly or those with pre-existing medical conditions) to mix with their other family members.

However, most businesses should be allowed to reopen, but with social distancing enforced. Some restaurants and takeaways could also reopen in my view, if they have the possibility to distance customers from each other and also from staff. Pubs are a harder ask, since after a few beers people tend to relax their guard. Cinemas and theatres - no chance until something changes.

Tinkering around the edges with a lockdown(e.g. opening up DIY shops) is not really going to improve the economy and it risks reversing the gains that we have made against the virus. I would prefer to see the lockdown maintained until well into May in the hope that we can go faster in relaxing the restrictions later on.

Life can return to something close to 'normal' IF wearing masks (mouth covering scarves even) and social distancing is implemented in public - masks markedly reduce how much carriers propel viruses everywhere, and SD keep people apart so they don't catch it so easily. Can't adult live with that minor infringement to their liberty for a while? Most can, some can't (though for some of them washing hands is probably too much to ask...). People who can't do two simple things for the benefit of general public health really do need to be treated as children - that's humans not mature enough to understand and use a simple, science based and effective, concept.

Even moderately priced IP cameras now have automatic people counting capacity so that side of it could even be automated.

Time to get the nit situation sorted while the kids are off. Often why the 6 weeks summer holiday never done the trick I never know. Perhaps some families just let the little buggers infest the whole family and do the rounds.

It looks like HMG has got its act together with regards to PPE and is now buying from companies in the UK.  We have an order for 3.2 million visors.
