Regardless of what happens between now and tomorrow morning at 9am GMT (09:00 UTC), tonight will go down as our coldest night of the overall autumn/winter season so far as the temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank was already down to -6.1°C as at 11pm GMT (23:00 UTC tonight).

Today's frost never completely melted all day and of course, more frost has been forming on top of that as tonight has worn on.

Meanwhile, Edinburgh Airport is even colder than that at around -7°C.

However, the temperature at Swanston in the south of Edinburgh has now gone UP over the last few hours to around -3°C which is actually slightly higher than it was at 6pm this evening.

I can only assume that this is probably due to some cloud cover that has moved into the south of Edinburgh, but which is still to reach us here in NW Edinburgh.

There is an area of snow to our SW which is showing up on the latest radar maps, and any cloud cover over the south of Edinburgh is probably from the tail end of that.

Well here in Blackford, south Edinburgh the sun didn't rise above the hill so the hoar frost and sprinkling of snow is exactly the same as first thing!
-6 C this morning, -0.5 C as a day max and back down to -6 C now
I went down to north Edinburgh nearer the sea today, just a bit of patchy frost survived the day down there.
To the S of Edinburgh Dalkeith, Penicuik, West Linton all have had a second day of snowcover.
Swanston just to my south had 2cm of snow at 0900 on the 30th, increasing to 2.5cm at 0900 on the 1st

Have woken today to a dusting of lying snow. My 6 year old daughter had me outside doing snowball fights at 6.45am. 😆

temperature currently 1 degree. And has now started to snow lightly with fairly big flakes.

Another dusting of snow today - a bit whiter and denser than yesterday. Yesterday Cockley Cley had half a centimetre - and all that fell lasted all day In the shade, white roads, roofs and on the bracken. Temps -2 this morning, higher than expected, but complete low cloud cover, from an inversion suspended somehow, preventing what might have been a -4 to -5 frost.

Our overnight fall of snow has now cleared away to our north, but everything is looking very white and festive with a light covering of snow even here in NW Edinburgh where I live.

As I write, the Sun is shining and there is plenty of blue sky around, but there is also still a lot of cloud around which means that the temperature as at 8am GMT (08:00 UTC) this morning had risen to around -2°C here in Edinburgh.

It’s a beautiful sunny winter’s day here with blue skies and light winds. Currently it has warmed up to -2.7°C (at midday).

A very cold day here - a light NW'ly, overcast, and just 0.4C, which is the daylight high so far. (It was warmer at midnight!)

A day of contrasts. Weymouth on the coast, a glorious day with bright sunshine and 2C temp,
A mile inland freezing fog and everything covered in hoar frost. In the summer when sea fog laps the coast it can be glorious sunshine inland and grey and dismal on the coast.

Its been that cold there is still bits of snow in the trees from Wednesday night as well as obviously the ground.
