First genuinely cold day of the season to see Autumn out. 3.8C max, now-1.2C before midnight, easily  the coldest night so far. Sunny, so shows we are reaching the point of little solar assistance.

At least the "lake effect" still works - shame it's so warm!

3.2, dew 2.5 - and chucking it down with cold rain, not even a hint of sleetiness.

Last night did, however, see an air frost! -0.6C was the overnight low.

Ah, was wondering on the snow thread Darren - could see the heavy precipitation over you on Sheppey. Was -3.2Chere last night and at 9.00am --0.2C and DP claiming to be -3.6C. My house is 25 miles WNW of Leysdown.

Cloudy and dry here, a result from that front to the south, but also some quite nicely defined cumulus out in the Dover Strait that will no doubt come ashore here later as the frontal feature retreats SW'wards.

Less cold last light with a low of 1.2c before the arrival of the cloud.

Currently 3.8c with a dewpoint of 2.8c in a light (force 2) NE'ly breeze.

Pressure 1000.6mb rising slowly.

The rain's stopped here now, with 1.2mm from the "lake effect" showers coming in from the NE. Not far away, about 30 miles, there's frontal rain moving in completely the opposite direction... I guess as that gets closer it's curtailing the convection here.

Having just popped out to the shops (5 miles away), as soon as I got two miles inland and 120 feet higher up, there was heavy sleet instead of rain, with the windscreen of the car making an excellent "splodge detector"!

Very interesting morning…
At 6am we had heavy rain and a temperature of 3c. When I left for work at 07:15 the temperature was 1.4c and a heavy sleety mix. The road I travel on rises to 725ft going from one coast to the other. As soon as I rose about 350ft it turned to wet snow and was sticking to the roads. By the time I reached Fourlanes above Redruth it was near blizzard conditions with 5cm on the ground and a car temperature of -0.5c. I have just managed to get to lower ground now at 09:45 after being stuck in traffic. I am in Pool near Camborne at the moment with wet snow falling and a slushy mix on the roads and pavement. Temperature at the moment is 0.5c … not bad for Cornwall and the first November snow is settle since Friday 25th November 2005.

After a fairly bright start to today with an official air frost at Edinburgh Airport and Edinburgh Gogarbank (but with only a ground frost at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh), we have just had our first shower of the day which has come in from off the North Sea.

Sadly though, this was just in the form of plain old rain here in NW Edinburgh with a temperature of around 4°C.

Min last night was -4.3c, and the max so far is just 1.0c with full cloud cover, although blue skies to the north so we're just on the edge. Can't be often we get close to an ice day in November, or not since I started recording 12 years ago.

Even that wasn't cold enough for the odd shower which we had earlier on today, to fall as nothing other than plain old rain.

However, the temperatures are dropping away nicely under fairly clear skies with an official air frost already being recorded at all three of my local stations.

Meanwhile as at 11pm GMT (23:00 UTC) tonight, the temperature here in Edinburgh was already down to around -2°C (it is -3°C at Edinburgh Airport but was only down to around -1°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh at that time).

2.1c after an overnight low of 1.8c with a dewpoint of 1.1c and some patchy frost on favoured surfaces.

Cloud is starting to move in from the NE.

I wonder if we will start December with a wintry shower ? We will find out within the hour.

EDIT - 08.15. We were on the edge of the shower. There was a 10 minute light rain shower. The next shower heading this way appears more beefy. For now my entry to the snow report thread is on hold.
