A dull, damp and dreary start to this morning here in Edinburgh and the east coast haar is back as well.😡

Currently around 12°C here in Edinburgh and I don't think that our temperatures will be climbing into the 20s°C today as it has done on other recent days (which even included yesterday before that dramatic collapse in our temperatures during yesterday afternoon).

Similar here at the moment too at 12.4°C and overcast. I suspect Edinburgh has a decent chance of reaching 20°C today (unlike here) but we will see later this afternoon.

Thick illegal low cloud here that wasn't forecast and 16c. A shame that the last hot day will be a slow burner.

Here in Edinburgh, the earlier fog has lifted but it remains dull and overcast with the wind continuing to come in from off the North Sea.

Currently 13°C here in Edinburgh which is whole 6°C cooler than at this time yesterday and not even the least bit warm for this time of year.😡

So far, my earlier prediction that we won't see a temperature of 20°C or higher here in Edinburgh today is continuing to remain well on course as a result.

No illegal cloud down here so far today, and as a result temps are a good bit higher than yesterday at the same time.

Looks like I spoke too soon about the fog lifting as that easterly muck is now closing in again as I write with a temperature of just 14°C.

Looking in that direction, there does appear to be some clearer skies just above that but we just need that brightness to head this way.

Currently around 15°C here in Edinburgh.

EDIT:

The fog is still coming and going at times, continuing to drift in from off the North Sea but I can see that the Sun is shining in certain locations in the city centre whenever I'm looking in that direction.

First signs of a few illegal clouds bubbling up to the South but already 27.7c at 1pm so should easily beat yesterday's high.

Just experienced a bit of a change in the air here at Folkestone harbour area. It was 28 C at 12.30 pm, then suddenly dropped down to 21.5 C currently literally half an hour later. I thought it was starting to feel fresh and airy when I was sitting outside in the shade. Think it might be to do with the wind coming in from the North Sea (whereas yesterday it was more continental-like) but it still feels warm in the hazy sunshine along with mid 80% H keeping DP at around 18 C.

Update: Now 20.6 C, the freshness is actually more noticeable.

It is currently brightening up a bit further inland with the odd sunny spell even breaking through from the city centre southwards, and the temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank is now up to around 16°C.

Closer to the coast though and here in NW Edinburgh, it's still dull with patchy fog still continuing to drift in from off the North Sea at times. As a result, the temperature at the botanic gardens is still only a rather pathetic (for this time of year) 14°C as is the case at Edinburgh Airport.

A very weird thing is now happening here in NW Edinburgh because it's now brightened up a bit with the Sun even making the odd appearance but as that's been happening, the fog has become even thicker here.

The Sun has now fully come out here in NW Edinburgh and we even have some blue sky now.
In addition to that, the fog appears to be very slowly and gradually retreating back out to sea.

The temperature is now 18.7°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank and the Sun is still shining, abeit with some cloud still around other than the earlier east coast haar.

Perhaps, 20+°C here in Edinburgh could therefore still be on with Michael (DoctorMog) being right about that. It's now beginning to get a bit late in the day for that, but I've sometimes seen the temperatures not peaking until around teatime at this time of year, so you just never know.

Michael has also hinted that this isn't something which would happen in his own neck of the woods in Aberdeen and on that note, I can report that the temperature up there is only around 16° at both Dyce and Craibstone.

From that, I can sort of see why Richard often has so much to rant about when it comes to the weather up there.

A beautiful day. Long spells of sunshine, a pleasant breeze and a high of 26.9°C, making it easily the warmest day of the year so far.

Such a shame it goes back to rubbish tomorrow.

The temperature at Edinburgh is now up to 19.6°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank which might already be enough to give us that 20+°C maximum as the actual maximum is usually (but not always) higher than the highest actual recorded temperature and the temperature has not yet peaked for today.

Whilst Michael might be right about the temperature here in Edinburgh, it turns out that he might not necessarily be right after all about the temperature not being as high as that in Aberdeen as the temperature at Dyce has now jumped up to around 19°C as I write.

One thing which I will add to that though, is that the temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank is not in any way consistent with the temperatures across Edinburgh in general as the temperature at the botanic gardens is still only around 17°C as is the case at Edinburgh Airport which is virtually right next to Edinburgh Gogarbank.

This means that Edinburgh has already technically had a 20+°C maximum today and it turns out that Swanston has been the warmest part of Edinburgh today.

I will say though that given what happened yesterday afternoon, last night and then this morning, these last couple of days don't really deserve to be going down as two successive back to back warm days with temperatures over 20°C on both days and yet, that has now ended up being the actual outcome.
