I agree with most of what you say, but on this occasion you're bang out of order. It's not funny and it's not even close to the truth......on reflection I hope you'll agree.

I don't like Ferguson - never have - not least because he has used the press (portions of which he still loathes) to unsettle players at other clubs over the years - recent stories about Utd's interest in Modric being an obvious case in point. Yes, sports journalists largely invent stories to sell papers and appease their editors, but the stories aren't entirely without foundation. As I see it there is little difference between using maleable journalists 'looking for a story' and calling up Modric's agent to have dinner. It's simply a more subtle form of tapping up.
Is Ferguson petulant? I think his ongoing feud with the BBC ticks the necessary box.
Is Ferguson a tosser? I refer you to my second paragraph.
For all of that he has largely been a great manager for United over the years and served the club well.
