How long before Liverpool fans see Dalglish emperor in his new clothes?
Given the blind adoration for King Kenny, probably never.
Fact is, he took over a team whose tactics in the previous 18 months had been defence-orientated and opposing managers set their teams up accordingly. When Dalglish turned tactics on their head and started to be more attack-minded, it temporarily wrong-footed managers. Now they've come to know what to expect and when even shite teams like Wigan and West Ham can easily counter what Liverpool have to offer, it's time for Dalglish to work his plums off to formulate enough different tactical plans to deploy and change mid-match when needed. If he can, I'll forgive him for starting the rot at Liverpool in the late 80's.
However, I don't think he's a good enough manager; his repetoire's too limited. Instead, Liverpool will likely get a boost when Pikey Carroll comes in to add a different dimension, and this will probably paper over the cracks. If Liverpool had won against cellar-dwellars Wigan & West Ham and kept playing well and dominating games, I think they could have made a charge for 4th place, given the indifferent form of Chavski, Citeh and Spurs. Unlikely, but by no means impossible - and if they could have pulled it off, what an achievement! Especially if that Spanish Judas tosser missed out next season. As it is, those dropped 5 points have slammed the door in the face of any fairy tale - not just the not picking up the points, but the pathetic manner of how we played has halted any momentum we were starting to build and shown just how easy we are to play against.
I'd give Dalglish until mid-April before deciding whether to give him a contract going forwards. He needs to show he has the managerial ability to turn a major dip in form around and get the team playing a variety of tactics that keep opposition teams guessing.
