All location specific forecasts for snow should be taken with a shovel full of salt until (if you will forgive the expression) the Day After Tomorrow”. Ie Tuesday.

Weather for the week ahead on the BBC website, which I’m assuming was what would have been on Countryfile? Shows Tuesday’s snow potential for southern, western and central areas. Mentioned potential for the south east too. Made nothing at all of Thursday’s system. Brushes the south coast and disappears off into France. Looked very dry to the northeast.

The (Met Office) raw data up here shows snow showers on and off until 10am tomorrow, with the colder air more or less here hopefully there will be a covering in quite a few places. It will be nice to (at last) have a week that feels like winter.

Snow that settles is incredibly difficult to forecast with any degree of accuracy.

I’ll save my judgement call until an hour or so before the front actually arrives!

Statistics prove that the period just after records began witnessed some of the most extreme weather ever recorded. Records were being broken on a frequency that has not been repeated since.

For me (Tues) this is still a mostly rain to snow event, thus limiting accumulations for most. Without sub zero dps in place and a robust SE draw we won’t get high the sort of accumulations some ppn charts are suggesting.
A ‘Classic’ Channel low it isn’t. Interesting, but not ‘classic’.

I’ll be issuing an Advisory for my region for a short spell of wet snow Tues evening. No big problems expected.

Thurs may be more significant depending on angle of trough etc so looking at that later.

NW seems best.
Big hole here. Looks likely that the precipitation may break up here or be sufficiently light that is will produce just sleet at best especially if it arrives during daylight hours.
Parts of NW England look to get somethibg significant at least on the above.

The automated forecasts show mainly sleet for here but we still have a yellow snow warning.  That usually means it’ll all fall within five miles and miss me completely!

If you take a snapshot of the GFS midnight Tuesday night, to me this looks like a good opportunity for snow showers off the Irish Sea, these could get a fair way inland due to the westerly tilt. By this point it will cold enough for snow away from the immediate coast.

Met office (per their website)  not on board with any meaningful snow for this region Tue/Wed, and we're not in the warning zone.

BBC tv forecasts and auto output more encouraging, but in a winter of "expect the worst outcome" for here, I'll not bother lamp post watching.

No doubt a set up that, on the face of it, favours the NW, will deliver more further south again.

Into Thursday and the front pushing up from the south looks to decay either over us, or just before. with most of the energery re-grouping out east .

Hopefully more runs will help develop this, but id say Thursday is our best chance of sustained snowfall.
