Can confirm that this isn’t a bad one in the south just yet. Nothing out of the ordinary so far. Very windy yes, but the last few weeks I’ve seen windier conditions

I'm hoping that second squall line, the one around Reading, breaks up before it gets here.

Can anyone confirm whether I’m in the line of fire in North Notts?  Am I reading the radar correctly as showing a squall line approaching Sheffield and heading this way?  I’d rather go out shopping than stay in to do the ironing!

Squall line just passed through Basingstoke. Torrential rain but the winds were not as strong as earlier this morning.

My cheap Maplin weather station is recording lots of false tips on the rain gauge due to the wind buffeting the station. It says 12mm so far today but I think it's more like a quarter of that.

5mm from this in 5 minutes, rain fizzled out soon after - just before 11am

09 February 2020 12:41:13

Major power outages now just to the north of me. 140 postcodes affected just after 11am this morning in the RG7 and RG30 areas.

Then in the last few minutes 490 postcodes have been knocked out in the RG7 and RG26 areas, covering Bramley, Mortimer, Burghfield, Aldermarston and it would seem many parts of the southern half of Reading including Earley and the university.

Currently SSE networks has 82 faults in the central south. Some cover a single postcode, others hundreds.

Squall line was phenomenal. The intensity of the rain and with hail in the mix. Best squall line for some years

Took some video footage of it but I'm not sure it does it justice

I think the Met Office snow warnings for N England of 1-3cm above 150m for Monday to Wednesday are very generous.
To me it looks like you would need to be above 300m for that amount, certainly in the southern Pennines.

Some incredible gusts here in the last half hour and the first damage being done up and down the road, as well as the usual tipped dustbins, rubbish in the air, horizontal rain. Fences and branches down.

Terrific squall line here at the moment!, been ongoing now for 10-15 mins, exceptionally heavy rain and a hailstorm mixed in just recently.  The hail was more like Summer hail consisting of chunks of ice rather than the more typical soft hail you see in Winter.   Severe wind gusts and very reduced visibility at times.

Some wind damage around here earlier to fences, including a long section of fence (around 20ft wide) completely blown down near my property.

The most intense rainfall has passed through but winds are still very strong at times. Gone from 12C to 7C as well in the last hour.

Since my previous post the wind has got a bit stronger, with noises from the surrounding shrubs and the house, and even as I type there has been a brief power dip that affected the lights.

That was one of the most incredible squalls I’ve seen. The shear strength of the wind and the intensity of the rain and hail was something else. Almost hurricane like.

Also lasted a fair while which had caused lots of problems with flooding around town. Easily dropped 20mm + in 15 minutes.

Thankfully, the squall no.1 wasn't too much of a problem, just ordinary rain with normal strong winds. The development didn't extend further from the SW. In fact, the winds were actually quite severe in latter part of last night. Now it's squall no.2 to wait for.

Had the broken squall that produced a lot of lightning from Salisbury to Reading. Nothing here of course! So near yet so far.

The intermittent nature of the line made for very turbulent winds, a few very brief gusts to near 60 mph but otherwise unremarkable. Slight damage to a couple of fence panels.

Remains to be seen whether a more organised squall hits later. In the meantime, a lengthy spell of gusts reaching 40-50 mph looks on the cards.

The last one gave some torrential rain here (10 mins)  and a flash of lightning.  Wind levels  not massively different  to before and after - maybe peeking up a tad.

Humber Bridge closed to all traffic. First time this has happened due to weather conditions since opening in 1981.

Network Rail just reported recording a gust of 94mph somewhere in Kent or Sussex - doesn't say where.
