London must be an awfully long way from me then, as this blows anything we've had this winter (or the past couple, at least) into a cocked hat... and that's just with the first, very faint squall line.

I'm hoping that second squall line, the one around Reading, breaks up before it gets here.

Can anyone confirm whether I’m in the line of fire in North Notts?  Am I reading the radar correctly as showing a squall line approaching Sheffield and heading this way?  I’d rather go out shopping than stay in to do the ironing!  

Squall line just passed through Basingstoke. Torrential rain but the winds were not as strong as earlier this morning.

Likewise here. My weather station recorded my record gust speed (82km/h) at about 11am, but the winds seemed to drop for this latest band of heavy rain. That record gust is since the start of 2017.

My cheap Maplin weather station is recording lots of false tips on the rain gauge due to the wind buffeting the station. It says 12mm so far today but I think it's more like a quarter of that.

I'm calling it a big fail here Stansted AP Max gust of 58 mph about 20 mph down what was forecast.  Lame!

Major power outages now just to the north of me. 140 postcodes affected just after 11am this morning in the RG7 and RG30 areas.

Then in the last few minutes 490 postcodes have been knocked out in the RG7 and RG26 areas, covering Bramley, Mortimer, Burghfield, Aldermarston and it would seem many parts of the southern half of Reading including Earley and the university.

Currently SSE networks has 82 faults in the central south. Some cover a single postcode, others hundreds.

According to the radar it should be here now. Touch wood its lost some of its oomph

Some incredible gusts here in the last half hour and the first damage being done up and down the road, as well as the usual tipped dustbins, rubbish in the air, horizontal rain. Fences and branches down. 

Terrific squall line here at the moment!, been ongoing now for 10-15 mins, exceptionally heavy rain and a hailstorm mixed in just recently.  The hail was more like Summer hail consisting of chunks of ice rather than the more typical soft hail you see in Winter.   Severe wind gusts and very reduced visibility at times. 

Some wind damage around here earlier to fences, including a long section of fence (around 20ft wide) completely blown down near my property.

Yep it's heading your way for sure! It'll be knocking on the door about now looking at the radar. 

The most intense rainfall has passed through but winds are still very strong at times. Gone from 12C to 7C as well in the last hour.

Hi Caz, I think you might already have found out the answer to your question, as from my reading of the radar the squall line has just passed through your locality.  I hope that you didn't go out and get caught in it.

Since my previous post the wind has got a bit stronger, with noises from the surrounding shrubs and the house, and even as I type there has been a brief power dip that affected the lights. 

Thankfully, the squall no.1 wasn't too much of a problem, just ordinary rain with normal strong winds. The development didn't extend further from the SW. In fact, the winds were actually quite severe in latter part of last night. Now it's squall no.2 to wait for.

In the hour to 12pm there was a gust of 91mph at Needles Old Battery (146kph)

The high energy on the   squall line just to the north of Brum appears to be mainly east of here.  As it stands I don't think it will give much more than the last one did to  Central Southern   parts.

The last one gave some torrential rain here (10 mins)  and a flash of lightning.  Wind levels  not massively different  to before and after - maybe peeking up a tad.

Humber Bridge closed to all traffic. First time this has happened due to weather conditions since opening in 1981.

Network Rail just reported recording a gust of 94mph somewhere in Kent or Sussex - doesn't say where.
