Unprecedented scenes at the little Co-op in Easingwold just now. Only 6 parking spaces left and they had to open a second checkout lane. Thankfully I managed to get one of the last 12 trolleys.

To be fair they had run out of tins of Tuna in Springwater, which was irksome. Time now to clear some space in the chest freezer for the butchers order that's coming tomorrow.

Now is not the time to panic.

Yes it's going to be a rough few months but we are going to get through this.

This morning I have been to Sainsbury's to shop for my Mother

There is no doubt rationing will have to happen - there was literally NO parking spaces , it was mental and this was 10:10

No toilet roll - crisps / biscuits / soap / dishwasher tablets / lemonade / bottled water all virtually gone.

People running around , growling , bumping trollies

After being shot in the buttocks in Vietnam, chased around the globe by the Illuminati, stranded in space, marooned on a desert island, dodging bullets and bombs on the beaches of Normandy, ship hijacked by Somalian pirates, stranded in an airport, mugged by youths in East Germany etc.

And now, tested positive with a potentially fatal virus whilst in another foreign country ... you would have thought Tom Hanks would have learned his lesson about the dangers of travelling by now!

This morning I bought the ST from a local garage as usual. The guy working behind the counter was coughing, spluttering and had a runny nose. I know the runny nose is not a classic symptom but surely he should be self-isolating? My guess is he needs the money. Worrying.

On a much more speculative note there are concerns about whether having COVID-19 provides sufficient level of protection against future infection. There are also concerns it will mutate making a vaccine  / herd immunity not applicable. I suspect most of us have considered the "apocalypse" in terms of 99% of the human population being wiped out and the few survivors going back to very basic existence. What would happen if the "apocalypse" actually turned out to be 50% of the world's population dying? In that scenario would the survivors be the fortunate or unfortunate ones? What on earth would happen to civilisation and economies?
