And seriously - why is Africa still relatively free? Is this a real effect or just lack of testing? I can't think that their public health systems are better than Europe's.

I think stopping large social gatherings is a sensible move. There is speculation of schools being closed from tomorrow, which I didn’t expect to happen yet.  Schools break up on 3rd April in Nottinghamshire and my best guess was if the situation deemed necessary, they’d keep them closed for the whole of April.  No doubt today’s COBRA meeting will enlighten us.

All the senior leadership team are having an emergency meeting right after school finishes today - and they MUST be there, no exceptions. That's very unusual.


All along our Head has reckoned we'll be asked to close at the end of next week.

I am but SK, Japan and Singapore did not introduce such draconian measures and they are getting on top if it. We are one of the least affected countries in Europe and are tailoring our response accordingly. I still have confidence that we are doing the right thing but would expect to see a ramp up of controls in the coming days e.g. social distancing

We start getting experts now blaming the government for complacency and incompetence. There was a professor of public health at Newsnight who was furious, saying that the government has wasted a month, that the approach used is too academic and wooden, that we are not following WHO recommendations,  the government is treating the public like children (the govt relies on behaviour scientists when it talks of possible fatigue with measures) and that we are not ready for what is coming. He emphasised how big a mistake was not to test everyone coming back from Italy over the last few weeks.


The editor of Lancet was also critical.
