One thing I can cheer Boris for is cancelling that idea

It raises a lot of questions. For example cheese can be safely stored (surface mould can be removed) at room temperature IME but it quickly goes dry or overripe. At the same time there are issues with the freezing approach as you flagged up in response to my query. In our case it is simply not practical to cook all of the order being delivered tomorrow and I expect we will stick some in the freezer and take the risk.

Just watching the US Trump conference. The man is ridiculous but it's clear the US is rapidly ramping up testing in a way the UK can only dream of.

Edit: They're also saying (a Dr not Trump) the US tests are more accurate than ones deployed elsewhere around the world which show false positives and false negatives.

I was stuck in that today. It does go pretty quick to be honest. After going on last night to book next weeks and only getting one for the 27th March I have now also booked one for the following week. We shall not be denied our Avocado's and Humus

Talking about frozen dairy products, it seems like the only thing the stockpilers don't want is ice cream (Balham Sainsburys had been almost completely cleaned out). Could be in this for the long haul so I stocked up.

Sounds like there is acceptance at the top of government that doing trade deals with the EU and US is a lower priority than dealing with coronavirus = extended transition.

I think the govt is still wasting valuable time, just just shut down ~everything now and ask people to stay/work at home and go for walks, running, cycling etc. Don't wait for the surge to hit the ICUs.

I hope not as by next weekend fatalities will be rising by 100 or so more each day.

  • We must act like a war time government and support businesses and families. We must do more and faster.

  • Covid-19 is so dangerous that without drastic action it will “overwhelm the NHS”

Given the advice for over 70s to remain at home, I was surprised to see so many out shopping in supermarkets today.

It's the first day, and perhaps they're just getting provisions in, but they comprised about half the shoppers in pretty busy supermarkets.
