The fridge is probably the best possible environment for the virus. Moist, and about 4C, those are 'lab' type conditions where the virus can live potentially months.

Cold does not kill the virus. If in doubt heat.

This cold = good seems to be a dangerous misconception. In the oven at 100C the virus probably lasts seconds. Even at 60C the lifetime is probably minutes. Lifetime increases as temperature falls.

And if you want to be sure, all you have to do is cook anything you want to eat after it has defrosted.

I thought I should check Ocado and this what I got, one hour delay before accessing the website. Next week is probably my last delivery from them for a while

From one of our local breweries:

NEW OPTION – BEER TO YOUR CAR

For those customers who are reluctant to come into the shop, we are now offering a service where we will bring your order out to your parked car. The process for this is very simple and is as follows:

• Call the shop as usual and place your order.
• You will be asked to make an over the phone card payment.
• We will take your car model, colour and registration.
• On arrival at the brewery, park up and call and we will bring your order out to you.

If it’s Just to provide for a possible shortage over the next 3or 4 months, you could make soft cheese but it takes quite a while for hard cheese to mature and needs the right conditions, so buying it and freezing it might the best.  You can also freeze fresh milk.  If it’s for something to do while in isolation, I think it’s an interesting experiment.

Schools across England are announcing full or partial closures because of staff shortages, suggesting that widespread closures and government intervention isn’t far off. The UK and Belarus are alone in Europe in requiring all schools to remain open.

If we have to stay at home for prolonged periods, I am thinking how lucky we are to have the Internet. Books and board games and gardening etc. can always help, but the Internet will make a lot of difference.

Well said, Darren.

A balance still needs to be struck so that society doesn't self-destruct.

The danger of allowing economic ruin and the massive human cost of that would dwarf the impact of Co-19, even if we talk of 250k Co-19 deaths.

So, whilst we need to take measures to protect the vulnerable, we must not store up problems for the future that will unfairly impact other groups, whether they be small businesses, entire industries, or school pupils.

We may see nationalised banks due the risk of most of them collapsing.

With out the above we will see a greater financial collapse than 1929, things may never be the same again after this pandemic. In some ways we have to learn the hard way, and a very bad thing can create positive outcomes for the future.
