ECM also prolongs the warmth to Sunday . 850s of 12c to 17c in the South and EA from Tuesday to Sunday.

The extreme uppers are just one day now though and it gets swept out of the way pretty quickly.

A pleasant week coming up though, perhaps cooler at the end.

Looks pretty much par for the course to me and consistent with the trend for warmer than average conditions we have been seeing in recent years.

Fascinating runs for next week.

I remember Brian saying last year how easily heat seems to build these days. When we get a plume 32C seems always nailed. I remember late 90s, 32C always felt like the highest it could go.

Effortless heat these days.

Here in the SE a few cloudier and showery days like this offer some welcome relief from the generally very warm, settled and parched theme of many summers since 2013.

With this SEly it is so foggy here that I’d be happy to be able to see a forecast through it.

Fingers crossed you lose the SE'ly Doc and Moomin gets the extended heatwave he is desperately craving.

Look at last year: none of the months were that much above average, and indeed June 2019 where we saw French records tumble, 25otherm over southern England and 24C in London was only 0.2C above average for the UK as a whole.

It's an interesting - and predicted - feature of climate change in Western Europe. The continent warms more rapidly than the oceans, so when we're under maritime influence our weather isn't that much warmer, and if it's Pm air from the Greenland-Iceland sea it may even be cooler, but when we get a plume of Tc advection we are importing air that is a couple of degrees hotter than before.

On this run from GFS July seems to be starting off nice and pleasant. Let’s hope the theme continues

Gfs seems to be firming up on a one-two pattern next week: initial peak on Wednesday, then slight cool down on Thursday, then second peak early in the weekend.

GEFS certainly prolonging the heat now, the cool down was forecast to be around the 26th, now on average it’s not till the 30th and some keep it going longer.

It's 12z time. Always remarkable how relatively little excitement a potential summer heatwave gets in here compared with a potential winter snow event. I think I must just be wired differently to most of you.

Iconic scenes from ICON, which as usual is first out of the blocks:

Only goes up to next Saturday but you can see there are at least 2 more days of heat left in that pattern before any breakdown, if not more.

GFS so far is similar to 06z, but it's early days. Same mini-cooldown on Thursday:

UKMO also similar to 00z, and very different to GFS (see SLP map for GFS same time below). Looks like a quicker heat up then breakdown on UKMO

Brilliant output tonight so far.

T+72 through to T+144 showing increasingly settled and very warm weather for the whole period.
Best weather in the SE with more in the way of cloud and rain in Northern Ireland and Western Scotland, especially earlier in the period, but improvements here later.

Looking good.

GFS just about hangs on into Sunday. Looks like a Spanish plume may be in the offing next Saturday night. Classic signature up through Biscay.
