There has been blue sky to the north all morning, as you can see on my webcam (link below) but the sun has barely been out.

Currently 26.7C with 58% humidity. Certainly feels very sticky, just went out on the bike for 2 hours. Next stop, the shower!

That’s odd Rob. I’ve gut 27.3C already here near Lee On Solent, but I’d expect that with a slight offshore drift. Once the SB kicks in the coastal strip will be pegged whilst inland rockets. I’m still going for Wisley/Woking/Farnborough as a hot spot.

Still a "comfortable" 26.2 c here at my coastal edge of Folkestone, it did rise briefly to 28.4 c half an hour ago but dropped as an another round of thick high cloud has moved in from the Channel. Still sticky and clammy indoors but not that ideal for sitting in the garden chair right now where it actually felt fresh! Mind you, whenever the sun did come out it had felt very muggy and hot.

Looks like the official min at Langdon Bay was probably 22.3C, so some way off the record. The lowest hourly reading was 23.5 but it must have dipped quite a bit between hours.

https://www.ogimet.com/cgi-bin/gsynres?lang=en&ind=03796&decoded=yes&ndays=2&ano=2020&mes=08&day=08&hora=18

(That figure will be the 18Z-06Z minimum but looks fairly certain the 09Z-09Z one would be the same.)

Langdon Bay is 32.6C at midday which is pretty good going for a coastal station!

The MetO automated forecast has toned down max temperatures by 2C today. So a top temp of 30C in Wye (170m below us). I don't expect Hastingleigh to get above 30C which will be a huge relief.

Appalling weather.

Looking on Wunderground there is some extreme heat across Sussex. Unofficial i know and clearly too high but there are some 35s and 36s around Hassocks.

33C around Folkestone too.

Headcorn aerodrome currently 34.1 but not sure if that is official?

MetOffice have 36C for Heathrow tomorrow and much less cloud than today.

I think their 35C for today will be wide of the mark.

Indeed 32 widely at midday around Eastbourne some reports of 34. Crazy stuff seems lower tho today further toward London relatively speaking. Very high minima last night too

Feeling rather humid with slack winds.

Unfortunately the Met network even including manual stations is pretty sparse. There are stations at Hastings and Bognor but probably too coastal for the extreme heat.

What’s clear today. If any clearance happens around the core 2-3pm period temperatures will rocket.

So maybe all is not lost

Anyone know the station record at Langdon Bay, Dover? I think I remember it almost getting up to almost 36c last July, it’s already 33c there.
