ECM 12Z also looks very favourable for a continuation of cold weather as we head towards the middle of December. In fact, a bitterly cold spell could quickly develop *if* the evolution it shows is correct

If the GFS 18z run follows the earlier ensembles it will show much milder across all parts by the 7th. If it doesn’t it will be an interesting sign.

Its shaping up to be a fairly volatile spell of the weather next week. Sharp boundaries between cold air across the north of the UK and milder air across the south.

Lots of high lat blocking showing it’s hand around the globe, notibly so over northern Canada, polar vortex goes awol but still the Atlantic lows barrel up to Iceland relentlessly keeping the cold locked over mainland Europe.

Isolated piece of polar vortex over Canada...this could curve the remaining arm towards eastern Iceland(hopefully)....a renewed surge of WAA mid Atlantic could see a really cold northerly set up which could really kick start winter in our neck of woods....on the other hand...

The 0z GFS is loaded with potential down the line. Lots to be resolved. Looking at the ensembles there is now a clear possibility into middle next week that it continues cold.

Longer term it was at the top of the pack, but looking at the pressure patterns there is a lot to play for, as the ensembles equally show anything could happen.

Fasinating.

ECM 0z is very progressive and not a great run. Will be interesting to see where this sits.

It is weird how the 0z runs have been more progressive recently, but ones later in the day go the other way. It's been mentioned a few times, but I've not paid any attention as it's not logical with the way the models work.  However it keeps happening and it's getting to the stage where it might be more than a statistical anomaly.
