Some common sense batting at last from AC and KP. Time is not an issue in this match, it's all about not giving your wicket away cheaply. Doesn't matter if they score at 2 runs an over or less. If England get a lead of over 200, I would fancy them strongly. Swanny (and also don't forget Root as an occasional spinner) will do well on this wicket on end of Day 3 and Day 4. 


Vital that England bat out most of tomorrow.

If they can bat until just after tea then they should be up around a 200 lead. I reckon they need 280+ lead to be relatively comfortable. I'm not convinced the pitch is going to deteriorate that much. The cracks have barely changed since the start. Swann will be relying on foot marks, and with it staying bone dry and sunny there won't be any conventional swing for Anderson. Finn was largely rubbish today and Broad is clearly in pain.

On their day, many of the England middle order can dish up some punishment, but confidence does appear to be abnormally low.


As I said previously I won't be reaching for the Gillettes if England fail to post a 300 lead, and I do honestly feel that 250 would be a very tall order for the Aussie batsmen.

Have to say I admired the 30 ft sausage of empty plastic beer mugs being swayed around by the Green and Gold Fans on the TV. Most of that would have been consumed during their batting collapse and subsequent Lazarus escape.

It's interesting that the bowlers always talk of having plans of how to bowl at a batsman. I wonder if they've ever seen him bat before and didn't know how to work him out. A bit of a surprise but I'd be more surprised if they make as big a collective error in the future.

I would have been more inclined to bowl over the wicket and push it across him a foot outside off and take one side of the field out of the equation and also to bring the slippers into play. I don't think he would be the type to be happy to leave those wider deliveries.
