LOL, LOL, LOL! BBC South East arrived at Broadstairs beach a short while ago, to film a bit on the heatwave for tonight's local news. The look on the reporter's face when he saw the cloudy skies, the deserted beach, and the temp at 18C!  :D

I've filled him in on the good old Thanet weather, and in particular what that lovely NE wind does for us 😉.

As it turned out, the sun broke while we were chatting, so they will get blue skies to film in - be interesting to see how they report this now ;-)

We talked a bit about next week's expected weather, so maybe that'll get a mention.

Should be on the BBC London/South East News around 6.30pm today. I won't be in it, we were just informally chatting.

So where will todays official hot spot be... Solent? hurn? Well im going for otterbourn water works. Solent was stopped in its track by a sudden and rather late sea breeze - but I dont think near by southampton way would have been effected much allowing temps to continue to climb.

Otterbourn water works 🙂

I see Chivenor, right on the N Devon coast, has made it to 30C (rounded). That is really quite rare for that location (although I recall in the 1990s Saunton Sands, which is nearby, was a regular on the UK hotspots tables...)

Over here at Folkestone, I did do a lot better with unbroken sunshine lasting the whole day today. It was the brisk NE wind that had kept temperature hovering between 22 C to 24 C from dawn and into most of the afternoon but I was able to sit in the garden to top up the tan. But it was only because I was to the lee side of it all thanks to them thar hills to the north of the town.
It's now currently 20.3 C with the same clear sky and that brisk NE wind.

Well if you've just watched that live broadcast, you'd think I've been lying about how miserable it's been here today! If that report was about 2 hours earlier, it would have been a totally different scene.

Is it me or is it REALLY necessary to do all these sensationalist news regarding this warm spell where the SE News did a ten minutes long special about it? Granted the UK is doing well where it has been 30 C or above somewhere around the country for the past week but believe it or not, it's called "Summer Weather".
Or it it because after the past six years of poor summers all this is being a shock to the system? Perhaps I'm being indifferent about it because I've not really experienced the real heat others has been getting.
From memory, the Heatwave of 1995 was a belter because I can still remember that clear as anything 18 years on, along with, obviously 11th August 2003 (even though it "only" got up to 32 C here) and the 35 C on the 19th July '06. This time round it'll be a more forgettable thing . . . unless I suddenly find myself recording 100 F here at Folkestone next week.

This will definitely be memorable for me.  Today the maximum here was 27.9C making it the warmest day I have ever recorded here since my records began on 1 June 2009.  The previous high was 27.3C on 1 July 2009.

The temperature here is actually rising.. currently 28.6C and sunny. The Met Office keep changing their minimum temperature forecast from 19C to 20C - 20C would be exceptional for here.
