Is it me or is it REALLY necessary to do all these sensationalist news regarding this warm spell where the SE News did a ten minutes long special about it? Granted the UK is doing well where it has been 30 C or above somewhere around the country for the past week but believe it or not, it's called "Summer Weather".
Or it it because after the past six years of poor summers all this is being a shock to the system? Perhaps I'm being indifferent about it because I've not really experienced the real heat others has been getting.
From memory, the Heatwave of 1995 was a belter because I can still remember that clear as anything 18 years on, along with, obviously 11th August 2003 (even though it "only" got up to 32 C here) and the 35 C on the 19th July '06. This time round it'll be a more forgettable thing . . . unless I suddenly find myself recording 100 F here at Folkestone next week.

During the Summers of 2003 and 2006 I seemed to be constantly wiping my forehead and my tshirt would be seemingly stuck to my back whilst in this room, I feel I have been nowhere near to that level this Summer yet.

Not had any sleepless nights due to the heat/humidity - and we've had 3 days now with the temp over 30c in my garden.  It's been a decent hot spell, especially compared with recent years, but nothing like 2003 or 2006.

The absolute maximum is lower of course (we reched 32C that month), but if this continues, we could beat it quite easily. 2003 was not exceptional by any means here, not compared to 1995 that's for sure. Even summers like 1997 could could rival or exceed 2003 here.

OK BBC, how did you do that?! 1 Hour after you've gone, and it's overcast, breezy and cool again?

It's nothing new. Every winter the first 2cm fall of snow tops the news. It's laughable, but there it is.

So the second 30°C day here in this spell (and since we moved to Durham in Jan 2007), maxing today at 30.1°C.

Still 21.6°C and have just eaten in the garden for about the 45th time this summer. I should add that we normally eat outside from May to September if it's not raining and above 16°C, so this is not a new thing, but it's certainly been more consistently pleasant this year!

The temperature here is actually rising.. currently 28.6C and sunny. The Met Office keep changing their minimum temperature forecast from 19C to 20C - 20C would be exceptional for here.

See what I've done there?

Anyway, it's being a cool, comfortable refreshing 17.6 C here. I even had to shut a window as I kept feeling a draught blow down my neck (as the computer is right next to the window). Skies are still completely clear, though. I think I won't have any problems getting off to sleep tonight.

This is odd. A really strong breeze has sprung up out of absolutely nowhere. We've had to prop the doors open as they are all slamming.
