Rain started as snow and sleet quickly turned to rain and very heavy at that and just had a white flash of lighting and rumble of thunder. Snow now thawing at 2.3 degrees.

Hi NDJF, thanks for the kind words. Its great to hear from a fellow midlander, I was born in Great Barr and mom and dad had great friends who lived in Green Lane Castle Bromwich. I miss it there and also the hot weather sometimes and we also very rarely have thunder. Just little ones like last nights during the winter.
Its a beautiful day now big clouds and sleety showers after a wild night last night.
The weather doesn't look very interesting for me the next two weeks. I moved here to be near mom and dad who are from up here and also to have some interesting weather. We have a great autumn, winter and spring, very varied from minus 10 most winters or lower and very stormy weather and extreme amounts of rain . Summer is busy but also boring constant cloud drizzle and temps of about 18 degrees except this summer which was a real hot summer.
I will keep posting when I can and will be interested to see whats happening down there.
I think our nightime squall has reached you in the last hour.

The front has just hit London. Gone very dark, loud hail/ice bashing the windows.

Heavy rain and sleet here in Hook, Hants. The heaviest part is when the sleet fell, noticeably there is ice settled on car windscreens which has slid down to the windscreen wipers to a height of about 4 inches; also car rooves had a speckled appearance due to the slush on them. The intensity has now dropped and it's all melting.

Snow possible in the SE tonight.

Notice despite this very nearly being a snow sounding, how high the 850s are.

Those showers over the west midlands are really pepping up. A large yellow area has also shown up on my precip type radar, representing hail. Slow moving hail showers, must cool down the atmosphere - although with dps significantly above zero they can only do so much. Radar picking up the odd red pixel in that area too, so apparantly it is cold enough for snow in the heaviest of the showers there.

This is really wierd, there are pockets of low dps in the UK, for instance church fenton is reading 0C dewpoints.

Potential for some widespread (i.e well distributed) but very local snow this afternoon right down to sea level. If you can get a bit of shelter from the wind that would really help.

The heavy showers over the Midlands seem to be fizzling out very rapidly as they move SE. Still bright low sunshine here in London.

As I mentioned on the Convection thread early this morning, the showers associated with the occlusion are getting going in the NE of England now, and will continue into the evening. Snow likely over hills as this area of showers pushes through, perhaps some sleet or wet snow for a time at lower levels in the heavier stuff.
