Even down here in the soft south it has been rather gusty this morning. Waiting at the traffic lights on my bike I almost got blown over by a tremendous gust funnelling under London Bridge!

Can't believe there wasn't a red warning issued for this over Scotland. As others have said these only evenr seem to be issued for the south. The furthest north I have ever seen a red warning issued for is mid Wales, I think.

Cold front has now passed, and the worst of the wind is over. Colder air starting to seep down. Radar picking up sleet and snow showers to sea level in N scotland.

Been driving around Cumbria this morning and M6 has and still is a nightmare with overturned lorries (hoping they're ok - haven't heard either way yet?). The backroads are blocked with branches, small trees and there are big green bins everywhere! I live under the 'shadow' of Great Dun fell and that has now recorded 113 mph according to the Met Office.
One particular gust as I was getting out of my car took my door out of hand and I did think it was going to blow it right off the car. The door will now not sit flush against the car so I can hear the wind extra loud now!
Not experienced wind like that for years. Actually blew me to a standstill whilst I was walking in Penrith first thing. Does seem to e calming down now though.

Some really very heavy sleet and snow showers packing into NE scotland. Could see a decent covering in places like aberdeen by the evening.

Lerwick is really getting battered

http://www.lunnahouse.co.uk/camera.html

Actually the current temp in lerwick is -3C and there is no chance of it rising above about -1C all day. Thats unusually cold for shetland, you would only expect this in a strong northerly like we have.

I think the worst of the winds have passed through Burnley now though it is still very gusty at times. Blue sky showing in places and the winds have backed around to the northwest.

As soon as the front passed and winds turned WNW we really did see an increase here. Max gust 64 mph 10 mins ago with many gusts to 60mph. We are very low down here too.

There seems to be as bit of a surge in the NW of England as well.  This photo shows the sea in Morecambe Bay approaching the west coast mainline railway just south of Carnforth/north of Lancaster.

A windy morning, but it's picked up considerably in the last hour - some seriously strong gusts now.   The cold front was shredded to pieces here with nothing more than some patchy cloud and a very brief light spell of drizzle around 12.30pm!

Well - this has come as a bit of a shock... New brighton on the wirral is currently under water by about 1-2 metres from the photos im being sent.

Crazy weather, as this isnt particularly low lying area (though it does face the wind)

I have a picture of Morrisons in NB flooded.  Water looks to cime up as far as windscreens on cars and HGV lorries doors. Ive never seen anything like it for our neck of the woods.

CAnt uplocad the picture due to being on a works PC.

These are areas with a hugh sea wall and new sea defences....really dread to think whats going to hit real low lying areas like Norfolk and suffolk.

Thames barrier will be raised later no doubt.

Very windy overnight on the upper slopes of Gateshead... Nothing to severe for a costal boy lol but still 60mph+.

Wintery showers this afternoon with a mix of hail and sleet. Now on a very slow train home south and just past a sleety flurry at Durham.

There does seem to be a bias IMO towards areas of population, which may be sane enough really, and since the SE of England is the most overcrowded area of the country...
