Great header by Cahill, he was the only Aussie in the box.  I was just nodding off into an afternoon nap when that went in.  Aussies got a boost by that goal.

For the good of football in Australia them getting hammered would be a disaster for the game here.

Unless you understand the sporting environment regards AFL and NRL here and spend time with the media here you won't understand the pure hatered towards the game. There is media / Aussie here now hoping they do get hammered.

That doesn't surprise me, given the Aussies love to be at the top of what they do. Looking at the bigger picture I want a big Chile win because that will put some serious pressure on Spain.

Unfortunetly it goes deeper and more sinister than that here....it is a racial thing. The AFL especially see football as a dirty unAustralian immigrant thing.

The football haters here long for the days on the return of the white Australia policy, thankfully we have been winning these last few years and football has been rising up, so much hard work has been put in to this, I am part of this as I halp out at my sons club.

Listen I hate Australia at Cricket and Rugby but when it comes to this I have to back them against these freaks.

Australia making a game of it and unlucky not to be level.  That Leckie fella has got a bit of zip about him, and Cahill is the standout player on the pitch playing that deep striker role perfectly.

3-1 is a harsh final score on Australia.

They put in one hell of a shift and come out with some respect, which is what I wanted.

Disapointing from Chile though, not as good as I thought they would be.

It was a draw last time (Italy winning on penalties). Have Italy improved since then? Well I don't think so.

roy will be pragmatic. its a tournament, not a cup final.  we need to get out of the group and then its knock out.  many will be dissapointed tonight (re the style of play and probably the line up) but need to see the bigger picture. pointless in screwing up the players in the heat and humidity when there are two games still to come (incidentally, the likely temps for thursday are 14/17 c and damp and only warm for the third game). a victory would be a bonus but not at any cost. the italians have their next two games in the north in high humidity. roy will take a point and then bet we can 'outscore/outpoint' the italians against uruguay and costa rica. coming second in the group will not make much of a difference re the last 16.

lets hope that the country can appreciate the above and the knives dont come out after a 0-0 bore draw.
