Saint Snow

Not sure where to put this, because there's not a thread for snow potential (nor a specific one about the front moving in later today) but, seeing as it is about snow 19th Jan onwards, figure this is as good a place as any..

Anyway, the E4 is quite encouraging for here. A bit drizzly first off but then turning to snow over the whole of NW England (away from the coastal fringes). As the PPN gets lighter later on, E4 shows a return to sleet/rain for lowland areas, but I'll take the above, given the previous downgrades (and GFS still doesn't go with much of a snowfall here, instead preferring the rain/sleet only option away from elevation)

The important thing is that the low continues to be shown to slide, and slide toward the west of the UK. This obviously keeps colder air in place better.

E4 does, however, show the best snow for E Midlands/S Yorks. I hope Caz doesn't look at the models today!!

Under very light cloud here in liverpool i witnessed the lightest of snow showers. I thought someone was flicking ash on my walking through liverpool... then looked down the street and noticed it was occuring up and down the street. Stopped after about a minute.

Bitter out there this morning - lovely.

First lying snow since March 2013. A hard frost overnight has helped.

The band seems to have made much further progress East than was forecast for this time surely? Not sure that's a good thin though for my chances of snow tonight? Can anyone Southampton way confirm or deny if they have snow from what is showing on the radar?

Heavy wintry showers have been pushing in from the English Channel since 8am across some parts of SE and East Kent and have been locally heavy. Rain and sleet is falling at sea level. Wet snow at 80-120m and full on snow above 120m.

I have just got back from Farthing Common that elevates to 180 m above sea level and it is a winter wonderland with 2.5cm snowcover.

Snow is heavier now but not sticking. Just a tad too warm and snow not heavy enough.

Did not expect to see any snow in Worcestershire out of this, but it has started snowing heavily (@15:30) and the temperature has dropped to 1.8 degrees.

Hope it keeps up and doesn't turn to rain.

I am very pleased to report lying snow (just 1cm) at Whitfield, north of Dover, 130 m asl at 08.25hrs. It looked very pretty.

Another sleet and snow flurry here at Stanford near Hythe has given a dusting.

On arrival at Ashford Internationl Rail Stn, the skies started to close in. Reports were coming in of snow to the south west of here (circa 10am). Eventually, ppn arrived here at the Red Cross office....fecking cold rain!!

Been here all day, and despite periods of heavy looking skies, we've had nothing but cold drizzle. We've got an exterior floodlight right outside the office window, so in a few mins time when it gets dark, I'll be lamp post watching from my desk
