Medlock Vale Weather
20 January 2015 20:36:52

Very light dusting on the car and patches on the drive way but would have to be heavier to stick proper on the lane.

Is it just me or is anyone else looking at all that wasted potential over the Irish Sea?

Just looked outside, and surprised to find we have a dusting of snow already, especially considering the radar hasn't shown anything for us yet!

Currently dry though.

Looking at the radar it seems the current band over northern England has carried on moving through further than previously thought, and could largely dissolve in situ when it eventually stops? It seems as though the main areas to look out for could be a bit further north and east than originally thought, Perhaps Leeds, York & Sheff? Still a reasonable north/eastward progression even now.

Light snow here.  We plan to set off for Gatwick around 2am, so I'm hoping it doesn't get too heavy before then otherwise we may have to bring that forward.

Could anyone between Nottinghamshire and Gatwick please keep me informed of weather conditions.

My weather app has updated and has brought the heavy snow in my area forward to 11pm.  Since the snow started the temp has risen steadily from -1c to 0c, so it's only just freezing here now.

Altitude really does help.... took a drive out on the A31...rain in Alresford (75m ASL), 2 degrees C, some sleety windscreen blobs in Ropley (about 110m ASL), visible flakes in the headlights in Four Marks (about 170m ASL), and then wet slushily-settling-on-car-roofs snow in Medstead, 1 degrees C (about 210m ASL). Lovely to see

Started lightly snowing around 18:00, got heavier around 19:00, temp and dew point have gone up by 0.5C (Temp from 0.8C to 1.3C and DP -0.1C to 0.5C) in the last hour and it has turned to sleet, washing the slight covering we had away, again.

Still light snow in Sheffield. Looks like that heavier band to our south might just clip us as it moves north, mostly to the east of us though...

The progress of the transition from snow to rain continues pretty much as modelled - a victory for science over wish-casting

I do however have to report it snowed pretty much all the way from Manchester to Southampton, until the plane dropped below 1000ft then it was all rain
