I would not be at all surprised if Brian is right - indeed, have said the same myself over the past few days.

It might be right of having another very hot spell as the continent still very hot and we would tap into it at some point.  Just a standard warmer temps by the end of the week and at the weekend.  I remember the models was reluctant to allow heat for the UK as they preferred the default westerly element.

That BBC outlook seems more in tune with this morning's UKMO and GEM output, keeping the south on the warm side of things.

I get the impression that mid-month is the earliest we can reasonably expect to see notable heat trying to push back north. Always a dark shadow to this though, as the heat across Europe is likely to remain intense even as it shifts around a bit, so we'll be playing with fire, so to speak!

Weather Online not too hopeful for the south although better for Scotland in August and September.

Current thoughts are that August is likely to be a rather mixed month with a north-south split across the UK and Ireland.
High pressure will have a tendency to be to the northeast of the country and this may well lead to Scotland being drier than normal for much of the month.
With the jet stream pushed further south it is likely that more southern parts of Ireland and the UK are going to be wetter than normal with periods of rain at times.
Temperatures probably close to or above normal across much of the northern UK, but below normal in the south.

*September*
The area of high pressure tending to want to stay north of the country through September.
The jet stream again pushed further south bringing most rain to southern England and Wales as well as southern Ireland. Rainfall totals probably close to normal here and near normal temperatures overall too.
Drier weather elsewhere, although staying rather mixed with some rain at times and overall milder than normal. For many it might be a fine September.

Just watched a BBC forecast with John Hammond - and he showed an ensemble graph for the forthcoming week or so, mentioning 'runs' and pointing out an 'outlier'

Never seen that on a Beeb forecast before. Good to see.

In fairness from memory they have been pretty good with their 2 week forecasts this year.

I suppose for the far southeast we may see 26-27C or maybe 28C on one or two days next week. Warm, but I'm not sure that would count as hot?

I would say 28*c is or can be hot depending on breeze & humidity levels. Also they usually underestimate the temperatures slightly at times so could we'll got a touch higher which would certainly become hot.

Anything 80F or above is hot imo.

No as it only a tad few degrees warmer than average and the models going for those temps next week so nothing to write about and just a nice warm summery temps but not hot in my book.  

All hopes have been dashed in the latest update, but august still looks good. Though mid to upper 20's are still most welcome. 😊

Yesterday's forecast for here was completely wrong as well, although the forecast made no sense whatsoever:

"Cloud and murk will break up during the morning to leave a predominately dry and sunny day, although cloud will tend to thicken again during the afternoon"

So a sunny day even though the morning and afternoon are forecast to be cloudy... I guess that's covering all bases  I take it back - it was a spot on forecast  

They had been wrong all the time constantly they are 3rd world text forecasting that need to be scrap and a waste of licence fee too.  Like yesterday they went for 28C and lot of sunshine but only low 20's and overcast and this weekend meant to be nice and more sunnier on Sunday now put something else.

Its still very humid and fairly warm here. Just looked at the metoffice pressure charts and the cold front should pass my location by midday. 

Looking at the latest satalite & radar I reckon they are about an hour off the mark.

It was 25C down here on the south coast, it exceeded 26C in south london area. Widely into mid 20's across the south. For my area and seemingly others, the cloud forecast was a total mess up though 😕

After predicting more settled conditions, especially in the south, towards the end of July the second paragraph starts off 'After an unsettled end to July and very early August'....
