If you follow me on Twitter you'll know I asked Tyler Roys about this. His take is "Looking at several El Nino years, I like about 5 days for London, give or take on either side."

On the subject of wintriness, we have the first mention of the s word in our regional Met Office forecast this morning (for high ground of course):

"Outlook for Friday to Sunday:
Dry and bright on Friday. Rain on Saturday morning, brighter with a few showers by afternoon. Colder on Sunday with showers in the west, snow on high ground."

Now you're just being silly. I was referring to the use of the word Sunday. It has been nearly a week since I have seen it mentioned in a MO forecast.

What about the minus 16 appearing on some sites... Seen that on MSN  News page along with plenty of ice and snow.

Yes, it is refreshingly for forecasters to recognise uncertain situations rather than claim to know precisely what will happen in 273 days time...

UK Outlook for Monday 9 Nov 2015 to Monday 23 Nov 2015:

Generally this period is likely to be unsettled with strong winds at times, showers or longer spells of rain, interspersed by brief, more settled, drier and brighter interludes. The bulk of the unsettled weather is most likely across the north and west of the country, with a risk of gales or severe gales. The south and east is most likely to see the best of any drier and brighter weather. For mid to late November, however, there is a chance that we may see a colder, more settled spell for most areas. Temperatures look likely to be around or slightly above the seasonal average, with milder spells interspersed by rather cold conditions in the more settled periods.

Confusion!  May see a colder and more settled spell, but temperatures slightly above seasonal average, with milder spells with colder conditions?

Looking like another poor ski season for the Rockies again:

Friends of mine when skiing in Whistler , BC last December and it snowed once in 2 weeks - but even that never lasted at resort.

http://www.accuweather.com/en/weather-blogs/anderson/weekly-long-range-update-12/53146483

Looks like this pattern is bang on and will continue throughout the winter. - This monthly update ties in well with the LRF's even watching Gav's videos  - I.E the trend for a colder and wetter southern USA and SE and a milder than average Northern USA/ Canada.

Could someone let me know where the N. American thread is? I use to enjoy reading reports from Stewart.

Is it fair to call this an Indian summer?

Just looking at 'major' European cities as well - all above normal by at least 2c.

London 16c
Paris 15c
Berlin 12c
Bern 14c
Prague 12c

More or less most of Europe in double figure temps and will continue.

Certainly the mildest and driest October I can remember - I was away for a week but even then there was little if any rain - just overcast damp or mild. - I do remember a max of +6c in October 29th 2008 during those freak floods in east Devon and here we are today with temperatures holding up at +15c or 16c for most - Would you call this an Indian summer yet? Despite the rain it's so mild!!!!
