The control is SPECIAL
Looking on the positive side the GFS op has a cold spell rather than a cold snap with -4 to -8 uppers over Uk from 144h to 324h.
I concur. The 06z GFS control is VERY special indeed ❄️
GEFS6z update.
Why was the last posts almost 40 minutes ago - there have been 3 posts since by different members and I can see them on this thread!?

INSANE control- bit of an outlier at the end- but what a run for cold lovers.
At this rate I'm gonna have to hibernate
Just don't read/look too far beyond 7 days.

Beyond that is pretty irrelevant except for trends. The Op delivers a milder end of the run but also one of those classics where high latitude blocking still delivers westerlies...... But on the ensembles the Op was an outlier at the end - if you look at the other runs very few of them show a mild breakdown.
The key for now is what happens from around Tuesday next week.
How many times have we seen charts offering almost 5 ice days for London?

Temperatures widely down to -3c nationwide by 6pm next Thursday, if this materialises:http://max.nwstatic.co.uk/gfsimages/gfs.20160106/06/204/maxtemp.png
