I'm going to ask a stupid question, why after a very cold day with a high of 4c with clear skies, did the temp dip dramatically after sunset to 1c  but is rising to 1.5c now under clear skies. Is it the breeze stopping my first air frost of the winter!?

Same here - temperature is rising under clear skies NOT falling was +2.0c earlier at 6pm and now 2.6c

Temperature has risen up here as well. We're close to 3C in clear, still conditions 

It's been an underwhelming cold spell if you look at actual temperatures, as we hit 4.8C today and just 0.9C last night as a minimum (admittedly under breezy conditions).

Forgetting that though, and concentrating on the 'feel' of the last day or so, it has been a welcome change from the mild/average muck, with crisp, clear conditions and excellent visibility 

4 degrees and sprinkles of rain in High Wycombe.  Relatively mild for the time of year here.

The temps have certainly been unimpressive however it has felt nicer than the mild weather. Temps are 3C under clear skies at the moment here which is crazy. I went to bed at noon and there was little snowmelt but it was sunny. I woke up about 3.30pm and we'd gone from white over to rain and cloud and not a trace of snow or ice on the ground. Rapid melt it was!

Not really a cold spell, just a less mild than normal spell.

Where are you Bobmin? Snow falling or lying? You sure it wasn't soft hail or sleet?

Last night the temperature never dipped below 2.0c so surprised if Cornwall got any snow! - You're usually +1.5 to 2.0c higher in the winter. Where in Cornwall are you? Par? Isn't that near St Austell? I know Carlyon Bay Hotel. I have done business there and my mother plays golf there. Surprised you got snow! You're right on the coast.

It's all Exeter can do to get a rain/hair shower. But even the hail only lasted 25 seconds and most of the showers were in streamers out 10 miles to the west and mostly DARTMOOR - apparently Haldon Hill/ Telegraph hill was white this morning and snow fell there and settled as it did over Dartmoor.

Was so frustrating to look out west and see some magnificent CB's only to find out that they are not heading in your direction. These were amazing CB's with Anvils (incus) - I mean seriously towering CB's. - Shame they NEVER reached Exeter. Oh well. At least we had some soft hail last night and rain with hail today.

So far 0.5/10 for this cold spell.

So in hindsight even the GFS was under cooking the temps a little

I find it ironic that the mendips, moors, Brecon beacons, welsh mountains including Snowdonia have rain Saturday night when parts of central southern England as far south as Portsmouth on the coast get snow?

One thing for sure is this: - I circled it:

Disruptive snow but where? No warning and it's only a possibility because of the uncertainty and they are uncertain about tomorrow nights weather too. - This came from no where - It was only yesterday we were due the bitterly cold and crisp night this Sat night into Sunday with severe frosts and temperatures down to - double figures in some areas! (Someone took a pic of this somewhere!?). Looks like we would be lucky to reach freezing.

As a veteran of 47 and 63 I can`t get excited by forecast cold spells these days. I don`t think there will ever be another winter to equal those.

Yay! Got an airfrost. It was below 0c by around 11.30pm, and the minimum was -3.2c

Lowest   is   today   of    -0.9c.
