7.30 on a January evening,Not really that cold as skies are mostly clear.

Ice on puddles, first ice on the car psrked outside this winter.

West Dean, in a valley just north of Chichester in the Downs recorded zero C last night, -1 the night befora, but that's not unusual as it's a genuine frost hollow with cold air draining into the valley from the hills on either side.

FWIW, I don't consider Hurn a frost hollow as the topography is pretty flat with nowhere for the cold air to pond up. It's got very light dry sandy soil which cools rapidly in winter and heats rapidly in summer. (Yes, I live in Chichester but my sister lives in Hurn so I do know the area)

I'm going to ask a stupid question, why after a very cold day with a high of 4c with clear skies, did the temp dip dramatically after sunset to 1c  but is rising to 1.5c now under clear skies. Is it the breeze stopping my first air frost of the winter!?

It's been an underwhelming cold spell if you look at actual temperatures, as we hit 4.8C today and just 0.9C last night as a minimum (admittedly under breezy conditions).

Forgetting that though, and concentrating on the 'feel' of the last day or so, it has been a welcome change from the mild/average muck, with crisp, clear conditions and excellent visibility

4 degrees and sprinkles of rain in High Wycombe.  Relatively mild for the time of year here.

Stuck at 2.7c - and occasionally 2.9c.

Let's see what wintry weather is on forecast on BBC News 24 at 9:55pm.

I would be interested to see how much frost and snow is on forecast and the -15c that was due tonight and tomorrow night.

The temps have certainly been unimpressive however it has felt nicer than the mild weather. Temps are 3C under clear skies at the moment here which is crazy. I went to bed at noon and there was little snowmelt but it was sunny. I woke up about 3.30pm and we'd gone from white over to rain and cloud and not a trace of snow or ice on the ground. Rapid melt it was!

Can someone answer this, seeing as it's NOT just the SW experiencing this!? - Why is the temperature rising under clear skies?

We are now at +3c here in Exeter. - Temperature has risen by 1c in 2 hours.!? Anyone?

Temperatures are dropping steadily up north with a handful of locations dropping below -5°C at 10pm. If skies stay clear and winds light -10°C might be on the cards?

Last night the temperature never dipped below 2.0c so surprised if Cornwall got any snow! - You're usually +1.5 to 2.0c higher in the winter. Where in Cornwall are you? Par? Isn't that near St Austell? I know Carlyon Bay Hotel. I have done business there and my mother plays golf there. Surprised you got snow! You're right on the coast.

It's all Exeter can do to get a rain/hair shower. But even the hail only lasted 25 seconds and most of the showers were in streamers out 10 miles to the west and mostly DARTMOOR - apparently Haldon Hill/ Telegraph hill was white this morning and snow fell there and settled as it did over Dartmoor.

Was so frustrating to look out west and see some magnificent CB's only to find out that they are not heading in your direction. These were amazing CB's with Anvils (incus) - I mean seriously towering CB's. - Shame they NEVER reached Exeter. Oh well. At least we had some soft hail last night and rain with hail today.

So far 0.5/10 for this cold spell.

Just for you Marcus: - If you're lucky Oxford could just be on the edge of the snowbelt:

I find it ironic that the mendips, moors, Brecon beacons, welsh mountains including Snowdonia have rain Saturday night when parts of central southern England as far south as Portsmouth on the coast get snow?

One thing for sure is this: - I circled it:

Disruptive snow but where? No warning and it's only a possibility because of the uncertainty and they are uncertain about tomorrow nights weather too. - This came from no where - It was only yesterday we were due the bitterly cold and crisp night this Sat night into Sunday with severe frosts and temperatures down to - double figures in some areas! (Someone took a pic of this somewhere!?). Looks like we would be lucky to reach freezing.

Haven't seen any lower Doc.

Only -0.5C the low here, despite being crystal clear. I guess the wind kept the temperature up.

Nowhere near the -5C we got on two consecutive nights in November.

0.3c Last night and tonight it will turn milder with cloud an drizzle and a low of 2c. It looks like what was forecasted to be a bitterly cold Saturday night with Severe frost will now be another let down. - At least we had one airfrost to wake up to (whoop whoop!)- but it has still not dipped below freezing this Winter and the temperature is rising sharply.
