There are a few notable points about this month's weather so far.
First of all, you would think that it would be very difficult to get a duller than average winter month, especially since the winter solstice (the time when very little in the way of sunshine is actually available) is still less than a month ago. Yet, that is exactly what we are heading onwards this month. I know that this is Scotland and that we don't get much sunshine here, but I'm a bit sick and tired of those constant grey skies which I keep seeing day in, day out and it is got to the point now, where there is virtually no point in looking outside to see what the weather is actually like now, since I already know that this is what I am likely to be seeing.
So far, this has actually been a colder than average here so far, although we are managing to achieve that is a bit beyond my comprehension. A lot of that has to do with the fact that we haven't had any significant spells of mild weather during this month so far. We have also had one day which wasn't far away from being an official ice day but apart from that, there hasn't been a single day during this month so far where the maximum temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank has been less than 3.6°C.
On top of that, we have only had three days so far where there has been an official air frost, and since we are now halfway through what is supposed to be the coldest month of the year on average, that is very abysmal indeed.
This month started off on a very wet note as well with a lot of rain, but it is then dried up quite a lot over the last week or so and what are left with now, is the most boring pattern of weather which I can ever think of, where absolutely nothing of note, ever seems to be happening. With that in mind, this is fast becoming a month which I will be more than happy to see the back of.
The north of Edinburgh, usually always missing out on snow events which occur not just within the rest of Scotland or the UK, but also within the rest of Edinburgh.
