I'm moaning because once again I've ended up with all the useless snowy garbage. The sooner this winter and this miserable spell of weather is over the better.

Well, we've had that cold front come through during the night which was supposed to bring the coldest of the air behind it so surely, no-one can come on here now and say that the coldest air hasn't yet arrived. Yet after dropping for a while to deliver an official air frost at all three of my local stations, the temperature has once again gone up to above freezing at all three of my local stations to leave us with another frostless start to this morning.

On top of that, we have had just a single light snow shower from that cold front which produced just the very lightest of dustings of snow here. That came at just after 5am this morning with absolutely nothing before or since then. Yet, we have had more snow during this winter from just a typical westerly which has arisen from a period of cold zonality with the air coming from Greenland/Canada than what we are seeing just now so all I can say is so much for this being the coldest and snowiest spell of the entire winter.

This shows to me that this whole so-called legendary cold spell is proving to be one big massive legendary non-event. I have brought this up a few times and in response to that, a few members have posted charts which show certain aspects of the model output for a day or so's time in order to try to prove me wrong. As I have said before though, any model output for even as little as a day in advance can never actually be guaranteed to be right in terms of what actually ends up happening and given what has happened so far, there is now no way that I can now take such model output seriously since it seems to be becoming more apparent to me, that such charts have been produced by certain agencies who are obviously being paid by various sections of the media such as the Express, in order to help them to produce those much over-hyped stories about extreme weather being on the way, which generates a lot of their revenue.

Come back and post something similiar tomorrow evening Richard (when the real cold has been here - note the proper cold is yet to hit here).

It is certainly very cold, there is no dispute about that...however IMBY is covered by an amber warning for snow from the met office between 2am and midday...it would appear that there were a few flakes overnight, but no more...currently as I type this the sun is streaming in through the window. Met office forecasts for my area do not appear to suggest anything substantial for the rest of the week.

The last time that I had anything more than transient snowfall was 20th Jan 2013...I'm still waiting

The "marginal" snow event on December 10th brought accumulations of 14cm to 30cm of snow to densely populated central southern regions as well as the Midlands. That was a couple of months ago! Yes there was disruption but it wasn't catastrophic!

All the forecasts for here today were for light to heavy snow. Overnight tonight was for heavy snow. Now been changed to just a shower or 2. We've had one light shower this morning which briefly covered the path. The radar shows the snow passing to the north and to south. What have we done wrong? 😢

But when joe public hear that and then go outside and it’s sunny and not too cold then they moan.  I too expected more snow, but like you, watching the radar yesterday all the showers were northwest and southeast of me! No real snow in winter and that bloody sea fog in summer!

If TWO had been around in 1991 or 1987 or even 1956 I have no doubt the usual suspects would be here moaning about it being a non event.

As I may have reported in the Current condition thread - again we have woken up to blue skies and soaring temps! No frost let alone ice - no snow because it's clear...!? and just been outside it felt pleasant in light winds too. Temp has risen by +5c in two hours from a low of -3c earlier this morning. No snow for tomorrow and Thursday looks like it will be overcast now followed by snow or freezing rain potential Friday.

Where is the snow, frost, ice? Good to know Exeter isn't the only place who hasn't seen anything!

I am most surprised that we are not seeing any frost despite some low temps - at least if we can't have snow give us frost but nope that's asking too much !

Then you turn on the news or listen to radio, one show or you're on social media beit twitter or FB and that's all you hear is the beast from the east or the beast bites!? PATHETIC really!? ha!

Good for Rome getting a good covering of snow, then a rapid warm up for spring! I bet they didn't have all this rubbish we are getting! It snows and that's it no flurry or flakes or freezing rain and having to wait days to see a flurry they have proper snow settling! - only to find out that Devon can't get a single flurry or manage a frost in this so called beast from the east - now we have freezing rain to look forward to. so upsetting!

The met office now forecast Thursday to be cloudy there is snow for Friday with potential for freezing rain for my area end of week.

Given the met office issued two warnings and took both down and removed the one for Wednesday last night only to now find Wednesday will be dry like today is such a downgrade! Now to find that we may not get a blizzard will be a no go.

Roll on spring! Nice to see southern Italy/Rome get snow.

Unfortunately no snow overnight in London - but it is bitterly cold.

I'm hoping we may get something tonight if the winds veer more E/ENE so those showers are pushed in land.

Would be a real shame not to even get a couple of cm's from such a rare synoptic set up and such deep cold. We had snow showers on Monday but it melted by the afternoon.

What a debacle. Our 0.25mm covering of snow is being decimated in the shade by sublimation and in the sun by thaw. Really you couldn't make it up.

As far as my back yard is concerned, this is turning out to be a gigantic waste of what could have been the perfect snow opportunity.
